My daughter is expanding her search for an accredited Bachelor of Social Work program with a focus on private schools anywhere in the country. We're trying to figure out which are considered excellent. Of course, she's intending to move into an MSW program for grad school. I'm sure we're missing possible great undergrad programs. Here's a list of accredited BSW programs. Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks!

BTW, at this point, I’m not trying to calculate match or affordability. Just straight-up reputation, quality, culture, and elements of that ilk.

You don’t necessarily need a BSW to get into an MSW program. There are 218 accredited MSW programs currently. There are far more BSW programs. The current top MSW programs include Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Chicago, University of Washington, Columbia, UNC,Cal, UT Austin, Case Western, Boston College, Pitt, USC, Fordham, Wisconsin, and VCU. This is a mix of public and private.

Yes, if she doesn’t go for a counseling-oriented BSW, she’s likely go for a counseling-oriented Psychology bachelor’s. However, if you have the BSW, you can complete your MSW in one rather than two years. She is tending toward UChicago for the MSW, but I doubt she’d meet the reqs/stats. Again, who knows. Not trying to match at this point. Thanks for those ^ leads for MSW!

How much credit the BASW student gets may vary by school. I checked my MSW school (one of the ones above) and found that BASW graduates get 12 credits and receive “advanced standing.” They graduate in December of their second year instead of the following spring. Good luck to your daughter!

Ah! We didn’t know that. She’s seen schools that will reduce the degree duration by one year, but she should probably read the small print. Maybe summer hours might be required, etc. Thank you for the heads-up! At least we have about a year to learn all this.
