Searching for a college...

Yes, I've tried all the college "search" tools but I don't get anything I want.

I'm going to start taking classes at a local college so I can transfer into a 4 year. (I was so bored in high school academically that I gave up so I have a bit of a bad background outside of home schooling, admittedly, and am wanting to repair this with a long track record of A's, an extracirricular, and a job before moving on from there).

And I'm having difficulties finding good places to consider.

I think one, I am interested in a college who will look at my background and realize that I have admitted that I've made my stupid childish mistakes but have grown beyond that. I want them to realize my academic potential and the hard work that I have put into turning my life around. And also that aside from my issues I had before, I've always been an A student who is eager to learn. I found myself hating high school because of the eagerness to learn actually.

Second, I really want an extremely conservative school, both politically and religiously. I very much want a Catholic college/university with a majority of right winged/Republican students. I've been considering Creighton in my home town but from what I read it is very liberal even though it is Catholic which isn't something I'm really up for.

Third, I don't want to have to live on campus unless it's an insanely good college that I can't reject, heh. I've been on my own since 16 and have a lot of stuff that just wouldn't fit in a dorm if I had to move. If transfer students don't have to live on campus, then that is all I care about.

And fourth, I'd really like them to be known for business and business law. Political science would also be nice.

Thank you in advance for any help that may be provided to me.
(and excuse any typing mistakes I may have made)

I'd like to add, I'm also interested in top 10 schools, what are my chances in reality as a transfer student?

Top 10 schools are not going to be conservative/right wing Republican. Sorry.

Georgetown seems like the ideal university for you. Most students there are not conservative, but otherwise, it pretty much fits your requirements. Getting in won't be easy though!

Well, I'd rather give up the top in the US for a conservative school, as weird as that sounds. But I just don't want or desire that type of distraction. And I'd rather be happy with what school I'm at.

Gonzaga (Catholic)
Furman (Conservative)
Pepperdine
George Mason???

The most right-wing schools are going to be associated with a very conservative Christianity. Some of them are also excellent colleges-- e.g. Wheaton in Illinois and __________ in Grand Rapids Michigan. But I think they could be hard places for someone who has been on his/her own.

Catholic:

Gustavus Adolfus C
U of Puget Sound
Willamette U
Whitworth C
Catholic U
St. Olaf C
St. Martins C
St. Louis U
St. John's (MN)
Villanova U
Emmanuel C (MA)

Conservative & Religious:

Southern Methodist U
Texas Christian U
Gordon C
University of the South
Baylor U

Some of Isleboy's Catholic colleges aren't Catholic Colleges. Notre Dame would be good, but it's brutal to get into as a transfer.

Religious and conservative:

Hillsdale College
Grove City College

Georgetown and Princeton both have very large republican presence but arent majority conservative.

Wheaton comes to mind as one of the best schools that are both conservative and religious

I know people who transfered into Notre Dame... 'tis possible.

Wow...My ideal college is sooooooo different from yours.

But I wouldn't suggest a lot of these Catholic schools because it usually doesn't mean conservative.

Question about Wheaton:

They seem to be very "Christian" even to the point of requiring a recommendation from a Pastor, which would be near impossible for me being a Catholic and only knowing priests. Do they even accept Catholics? O_o

That's Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. This thread is talking about Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts (<a href="http://www.wheatoncollege.edu)%5B/url%5D">www.wheatoncollege.edu)</a>. No pastor recommendation required.

Ohh ok. That one in IL sure is gorgeous though!!!

Does anyone know about University of St. Thomas in MN in regards to political affiliation?

Go to Notre Dame. 50/50 is the best you're going to get at a top 25, and its catholic to boot.

I seriously think my chances at ND are very slim, I always loved that school. I'd probably be wasting their time if I applied.

I think that if they require any high school information from me, even as a transfer, then it'll be a quick "denied!". Regardless of academics afterwards. I have found a lot of these schools place large importance on high school.

Pepperdine and USD would probably be good matches.... both very strong academically and 2 of the best campuses in the country.

Can you specify more clearly USD? U of South Dakota or U of San Diego?

Do they have strict requirements of transfers in regards to high school? (I was told this is probably important, but after posting this)

Well I guess there are 2 different "USD's" but the one most commonly referred to is the University of San Diego. I know that the regular admissions rate has dropped down to like 40% this past year, but I don't know how hard it is to transfer in.

lol, well, living where I do, SD=South Dakota, and according to their website they've been rated well, so I didn't know. Safer to ask and be sure.
