Searching for a new bike!

Anyone knows where I can get a bike that is cheap ($50-200; new or second-hand) but most importantly good. [FYI, I know little about bikes.] I will be using the bike mainly to cycle to school (a short cycling trip of 3-10minutes depending on the location of my class, but a fairly flat road terrain), AND occasionally to travel to downtown (passing by some undulating terrains, need a bike that climbs hills comfortably). Any response appreciated! Thanks loads!

I have two bikes - the first I got about 10 years ago from Recycled Cycles and still works beautifully with some DIY maintenance. I got another bike a few months ago at Performance Bicycle in Redmond, but they have a store near UW on 45th.

You should drop by both (they’re relatively close to campus), ask about any back to school or seasonal sales, and see what type of bike you’re comfortable with!

I don’t really know much about bikes either, so I just told them my budget and asked for some assistance. I’ve had great experiences at both places, but without sales, Recycled Cycles is probably a better fit for your budget.

I bought my helmet at Costco and other gear (lock, lights, kickstand) online and installed them myself.

I have been considering buying a bike too, and thought I’d share some advice my dad brought up when I asked him to keep an eye out for one online.

He said its a really good idea to find one with fenders over the chain, because it rains so frequently, and without that you’d just have water spraying on your legs all the time.

Good luck finding a bike!

I got my very reliable used road bike from Recycled Cycles for ~$130. Unfortunately, I found out a couple years later that it was stolen (someone left me a note on the seat when I parked it on campus). While that’s not great, it’s not too unexpected with used bikes and I’ve been told that RC will always call the police if there are stickers/registration issues with the serial #. Nevertheless, it is a great, workhorse bike that I got for a really good price and is with me 7 years later.

Also, if you find one that doesn’t have fenders, they’re super cheap to buy and install!
