Hello, I am a junior in highschool looking for a summer program. This summer I will be traveling to Germany from June 19 to July 9th and am looking for somethng to apply to that would fit in my schedule. I live in New Jersey and am able to commute daily into NYC. I'm interested in Art, Politics, Government, Social Justice, Ethics, English and other fields. I would for the program to be affordable because a lot of my budget is going to my german trip. Preferably no more then 1000 dollars. Last summer I traveled to alaska on a school service trip and also had a full time paid internship in Manhattan. i have been talking to a magazine about a possible unpaid internship but am unsure if that would work. I am not really interested in science or math.
I've looked into the University of Notre Dame Summer Scholars and am really impressed with it, especially since it is free. I am going to apply but it is incredibly selective. I got a 185 on my PSAT and am taking 2 APs at the moment (history and English). I have a 3.7 unweighted gpa on a 4.5 scale. About an 88 ish. I really like. This program because of its combination of art, culture, and catholic social teaching, all things I am incredible interested in. Coming from a Jesuit school I know a lot about Catholic social teaching and believe my application would reflect that. I think this may help my chances.
I also saw the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation program in Colorado which is also free (excluding transportation), but once again highly selective. It requires a 4 piece portfolio and as of now I really only have one or two pieces I like, but I am taking art classes again starting next week so hopefully by the April deadline I will have at least 4 pieces. The main issue, other than selectivity, is that the only session I am available for takes over my week of finals at my school. This could be a serious issue but I may be able to take them before hand and skip that week. If you know about my chances for either of these programs or other programs I could be interested in please help. Thanks.

I am awaiting my sat results, I took it on the 26th. My math and reading scores are likely to go up.

look at the governors schools of new jersey

Maybe I am looking at the wrong website but I don’t see this program being free. Would you please share where you find that information?

Every free program is highly selective.
