SEAS vs Wharton

I’m interested in going to either Columbia or UPenn and I’m conflicted as to what to ED to in the fall this year. I really do love both institutions, but I want to know which one would be more valuable to get into ibanking.

ibanking guy from Berkeley here. From what I know, Wharton seems more represented in the director level, so your bosses will likely come from there. A lot of analysts do come from Columbia, but I would not say in dramatic proportions more than NYU stern. I would say wharton would better, but Columbia would be easier to get into. Still, if you say you wanna do any of the ABCs (Accounting, Banking, Consulting) they see that as a very typical candidate. Just off of school character, I think Columbia would appreciate that more. So, in short, Wharton if you can get in, but Columbia may be more favorable to your background.

I went to Columbia undergrad, work in finance, and teach at Wharton PT. They’re both target schools for banking, and Columbia has the advantage of being in NYC. However, Wharton is the best UG business school in the world, and it offers recruiting opportunities rivaled only by Harvard. If your heart is set on banking, you should pick Wharton. The schools are about equally difficult to get into ED.

what about NYU stern? is that a good place to be for ibanking?

IDK about Stern. My brother has MBA from there but didn’t do banking. I have to say that as a Columbia man, my attitude to NYU is one of snobbish superiority, LOL. Try searching on Stern at Wall Street Oasis.

Stern is right under wharton, ranked #2 for finance and #2 most represented on wall street. On par with the lower tier ivies. Just search wall street target schools on google and you will get a list of the schools that are best.

I suggest you go to linkedin and search for jobs you want and check what schools the employees are recruited from the most.
