Second degree in chemical engineering

Hello, i am john 25 years old and i live in Athens. I studied materials science and technology (BS) and i work in petroleum company. I want to move from materials science to chemical engineering . Is it worth it ? I already speak with university of strathclyde Glasgow and offer me a place for Beng Chemical & Process Engineering (3 years).

What is your opinion ? My employer said to me that it will be beneficial for my career to obtain a degree in chemical engineering or MBA in International Business Administration.

OP: My employer said to me that it will be beneficial for my career to obtain a degree in chemical engineering or MBA in International Business Administration.

My thing is: schooling in grad school is mightily expensive. However, if your employer will pay for this education then take the MBA. The rationale behind is if you like to move from the company or change field into financial industry then you will be equipped with this MBA. And if you think that you need to shoot for managerial level or upper level management in your Petroleum Co. then MBA is the right choice as they will teach you about management and how to read financial statements and the strategy how to expand the company. In a nutshell, MBA is general and not technical in nature.

However, if you like to continue in this company and love to work as engineer or Operations, then go ahead sign up for Master level in chemE.

Also, try get some information (thru email or phone calls to any professors or instructors) from that school in Glasgow regarding this career track and the necessary education to support your desire and career. Then you formulate your decision(s).

Good luck with your future (career and school).
