Second time SAT??

Ok, I was just wondering how many points people usually jump or go down when they take the SATs the second time. Obviously, it is going to depend on various circumstances- like the amount you put into studying.....so is it possible to jump up 200 points or more??

200 points is very, very attainable. On your online score report (or maybe it was the one they mail to you, I can't remember) they actually give the average raise or loss of points for people retaking who had the same score as you (for each different section). It's always a raise, except for scores that are at the VERY top, and you typically aren't worrying about those scores anyways. :)

It is my belief that retaking simply piles off a TON of stress. You've done it once, so you are more calm and clear headed as you answer. Add a bunch of studying to this suited to your areas of weakness (a single practice test or what you remember from the test itself should make this fairly obvious) and you are looking very good for a retake.

I personally did not study at all in between my SATs (stupid, I know, but I KNEW that my math problems were idiotic mistakes, nothing that a practice test could solve).

With no studying, my combined score went up 140 points solely due to nerves and being more careful.

January 2008: 2230
Math: 680
Writing: 750 (10 essay)
Critical Reading: 800

May 2008: 2370
Math: 780
Writing: 790 (12 essay)
Critical Reading: 800

Study a lot, and be confident! 200 points is very easily attained (unless you got a 2200 the first time...in which case you'll need a little luck in getting those last few questions!).

Good luck!

It's much less attainable once you reach the 2100 mark. Those last 300 points are the hardest.

Anything less, it's perfectly attainable.

Thank you Disneyguy and Liist for your responses.

I'm very impressed with your scores, Disneyguy. Unfortunately, my SAT does not reflect my academic capabilities. I am looking for at least a 2240 on my next one, so I am going to do my best to prep over the summer!
