Secondary Applications

The whole med school application process is very new and unfamiliar to me. So, I figured I would get a quick education through this CC forum.

My daughter is already receiving notices to submit secondary applications from a couple of med schools. I know this is part of the process. What I am wondering is does everyone that submits an application get asked to submit a secondary application, or does some amount of filtering take place even at this early stage? I am looking for a general answer here, but if people can comment on specific schools based on experience, I guess I would encouraged that as well.

The cynical side of me sees this as a easy way for some schools to just get more application fee money, but you got to do what you got to do.

We are currently talking about this in the 2013-2014 applicants and parents thread in the pre-med topics section.

The short answer though is that the vast majority of schools do not pre-screen secondaries since the secondaries contain application fees and the more people filling them out the more $$$ so your cynical side is spot on.
