Can anyone speak to security at Wright State? I’ve read about the extremely high rate of crime in Dayton and read some bad reviews of campus security. We are considering sending our son for theatre at Wright State, but we are several states away and concerned about safety.
Wright State is in Fairborn, OH a suburban area near Dayton. My S has spent several summers on campus there and never had any problems.
Thank you!
We did a full visit this fall and I would be shocked if it were a problem based on the physical location of the campus. Its in a nice suburb. That is not to say there is not a campus crime or campus security office problem (I do not know one way or the other) but it is certainly not in a bad area.
My daughter is a freshman MT at Wright State this year and she lives on campus. There have been a couple incidents that I’ve read about in the news but nothing that my d has personally experienced or even felt was a security or safety issue. They have been mostly keeping to themselves due to Covid and there aren’t alot of activities that keep them out late. I have the zip code set up in my Ring app so I get the weekly safety/crime report for the area and there isn’t much on or near campus…
My S graduated from WSU pre-COVID in 2018. He had some items stolen from his dorm room most likely b/c SOME students on the theater floor felt it was not necessary to lock their doors. He also got his bike stolen outside the library - he was ONLY running inside for a minute and locking it was too much trouble. I don’t recall any of the student having having a major crime instance while he was there. Back then, the theater kids came and went from the CAC building at all hours of the day and night, staying late to work on student-run projects, practice piano, etc. As he didn’t have car, he rode his bike everywhere w/o any problems.
