Does anyone have any information about this school, or does anyone go there? How is the program? How many do they admit every year? Is there one area (voice, acting, dance), that is more focused on?

I’m trying to decide if I want to add this to my short list of colleges and go visit campus.

Any information would be great!
Thanks!

I have a friend who goes there and he LOVES IT!! I've heard great things about this school. There program is actually about 10 years old I believe and it's VERY GOOD. It's an "up and coming program" from what i've been told. They do about 4 musicals a year...I know that they are a "cut" program. My friend told me that you have to pass a cut at the end of your freshman year to go on to sophmore year, and then I believe you have to pass another cut your sophmore year, and once you make it to junior year your done with the cuts. They have alot of graduates working on Broadway National Tours. Jesse Coleman is playing Franz Liebkind on the Producers National Tour, they also have some other grads on the Lion King National Tour as well. I'd check into it!

I believe they accept about 27-47 a year I think.

Musicislife- there have been ongoing discusssions of this program. You can find them by using the search function...click on search this forum and enter wright state...I bumped one of the longer discussions of it for you, but there is more info here if you use the search. Good luck!

Just finished auditioning today!!! Honestly all the students and faculty and prospective students were SOOOOOOOOOOO nice and kind! Everyone hit it off immediately and it was amazing!

SingerNLmusic, my S auditioned on Feb 15th, as well. Have you received a decision letter yet? They said two weeks and it has been three.

Hi zrensmom, i also auditioned on 15th, and haven't received anything. Called them on Monday, and they told me letters were sent out Friday last week.

My S received a waitlist letter today. Did you hear anything yet???

Wondering if anyone knows what the odds are of getting in if you are waitlisted at Wright State?

Congrats on the waitlist!

I think people would have trouble predicting the odds of getting off a waitlist. At ANY school, it varies from year to year. What you sometimes can find out is the track record over a five year span at a college as to how many they took off the waitlist per year to get any sense. But what happens one year differs from the next, as to whether they go to the waitlist, as well as how many they take off of it.....I say this generally speaking about any school or program.

Thanks for the feedback. We are new to this whole process and walked in rather blindly, I'm afraid. Had no clue when we go there that if you don't make the cut, you can never audition for them again. My S has no formal training; but, has been involved in drama, MT, auditioned A Capella choirs, and auditioned Show Choirs since the 7th grade. Of course, he would have preferred a "yes" instead of being waitlisted; but, I think it's a compliment considering all of the talented and formally trained students at the audition.

Unfortunately, he didn't audition anywhere else and now we will need to be looking for either BA or BFA programs in Theatre in order to come up with a good back up plan.

Any suggestions?

I received my acceptance letter a few weeks ago? Any other acceptances? Does anyone know how many people they accepted this year?

To preface things, I discovered CC so late in the process I didn't think we could add a school at this late date so we never got to research every single school on the CC list. Wright State being one of them.

My question: Since they're still auditioning according to the web site, it would make sense that there are still openings. right?

I'm only asking, because we just discovered this school by way of a friend whose D attends Interlochen. This gal raved about the department. Apparently, several professors run the summer program at Interlochen. She told me to check it out because she believed they were still taking apps. Turned out she was right. I have the utmost respect for their opinion, so we couldn't wait to get home to check out the web site. Boy are mad we didn't do this before! This school looks fantastic. My D put in an app right away and I sent an email to see if we could get a spot in their last audition day in April. They promptly called and said yes. That leaves me to think that spots are still available.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I'd hate to pay premium airfares if there are no spots to be had.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you are unsure about spots being available and concerned about airfare, I would call the dept (Vicki might be the contact person and is very nice) and ask directly just to confirm. My d goes there and loves it!

Thank you for the advice & the endorsement musicalmom! We'll call first thing Monday morning. Hopefully it will all work out. :-)

zrensmom, ( or anyone who knows ) can you tell me where you got the info " if you don't make the cut, you can never audition for them again " I can't seem to find that information on the the web site. Are you referring to the initial audition to be accepted into the program or are you referring to the jury process once enrolled? That, would make more sense I think and that info is on the web site.

We've learned the hard way, it's important to go in with eyes wide open. :-)

Whoa!!! Sorry! I don't know how that got posted three times! Sometimes it looks like it's frozen & hasn't posted so I hit the reply again. I won't do that anymore! :-)

Well, I called and spoke with Victoria. She was incredibly helpful and did verify that the first wave of offers went out already. If everyone accepts there won't be any spots. She even offered to confer with the department heads as to whether it would be worth spending the money to go out there on April 19th, then call me to let me know. wow.

SarasMom:

At the audition, Victoria Oleen told everyone that it is a one time audition program only. My son was devastated as he has been accepted to Wright State, but, thought even if he didn't get in that he could go and take pre-req's and then audition again next year. They told another parent who was also waiting that you cannot audition again. One audition only. I've never heard of that before? Has anyone else heard of that???
