Seeking Advice

I am in a bit of a dilemma. I am at Rutgers University at the moment paying out the who-ha. I transferred from a California Community College. And I'm wondering if I should go back and try to transfer to UCI or UCD or something. Here's the problem.

They put a cap on the units I can have until they throw out your app. UCSB: Over 90 units and they throw out your app. UCD: after 80 has to be reviewed by the Dean. UCI: No limit just a lot of pre-reqs (requires all of orgo to be done to even be eligible for admission, wont be able to transfer until 2 yrs from now). The bad thing is I feel like I could maintain a 3.6 for the rest of my time here at Rutgers. The thing is I am paying a lot and I don't think I've ever been more miserable in my entire life. I could go back to CC do well on my pre-med courses, but medical schools look down on taking pre-med courses at CC from what I have heard.

So, basically stay at Rutgers be miserable, pay a lot of money, do pretty well, and medical schools wont look down on my courses.

Go back to CC: Try to get into UCSB, UCD, or UCI, not be as miserable, save money, medical schools look down on my courses.

A little background info: I am currently taking 1st half of Physics, Calc and Chem. I have not completed the bio series and obviously not orgo. I will have 61 units at the end of the semester, if I play my cards right I could complete 1 yr bio, 2nd half of chem, 1st half of orgo, and 2nd half of calc and still be eligible to transfer to UCSB and maybe get into UCD, if I go back to CC. I am a Microbiology major, currently with a 3.45 gpa anticipating between a 3.6-4.0 this semester (*knock on wood). Have shadowing set up in NY for the summer and a possible letter from an ex-professor from Albert Einstein Medical(the guy I am shadowing). Also I have 3 yrs left until I finish my BS minimum.

Advice please!

Also if I go back to CC I might not get a bio class/calc/chem class because my registration date reset.

(sorry if this is poorly written I've been studying for 2 days straight)

Also rutgers only offers a one semester lab course for each 1 yr chemistry series. Which has been said to be find but I have a feeling it will be held against me.

The UCs are not your only choice in CA. The CSU system has some real gems and tuition there is lower than UCs. I do not know if there is a cap on units for eligibility for acceptance to the CSUs. I know there is a cap for how MANY units you can transfer in, but that does not limit your ability to apply for admission.

I am a huge fan of SLO, Sonoma, SDSU, and Sac State. Maybe you should look to those for in-state tuition and coursework. I know the state legislature is increasing tuition for the CSUs and capping enrollments but you have a nice GPA and will have units under your belt along with some CA CC units. I don’t know if having the CC units will help with your priority for transferability, but it might.

One of these threads had the data set for one of the UC med schools and the CSUs percentage-wise did well against the UCs for admission stats.

Rutgers OOS vs CSUs in-state, seems like it would be easier financially.
