Seeking answers/advice from Alumni, Dean, or Admissions office

Good morning, I am a student in the VCCS system, seeking to transfer to UVA in the fall of 2016.

I have 18 credits to date, and have chosen my classes based upon the UVA transfer credit analyzer. I will continue to do so for the remainder of my time at Tidewater Community College. As of now I have a 3.83 GPA, and will be striving to keep my GPA for the duration of my time here at TCC. I have been blessed with scholarships and grants that completely cover the rest of my time at TCC, so I would like to take advantage of the free college while I can.

I’m 22 years old, and have not taken the SAT or ACT. I didn’t show much of an interest in attending college while I was in high school because I was going to HVAC school for my junior and senior year and thought I was going to be happy doing that after high school. However, I worked in the field for a few months after I graduated and did not enjoy it and was set up with a very bad company that had not only a bad repuation but the employees were felons and were not good coworkers that were willing to teach me what I needed to know to succeed in the field. So I quit the job and went to work for my fathers painting company and have enjoyed that ever since. I worked full time for 3 years, and am now working part time while attending community college full time.

So, my questions are-

  • Do i need to take the SAT to be admitted to UVA, given that I graduated high school in 2011?
If my chances of being accepted are lower due to not taking the SAT then I would rather take it to improve my chances.
  • If I keep my GPA up and complete the next two semesters here at TCC I will have around 40-45 credits, will that be enough to eliminate my poor high school GPA and academics out of the picture?

I have further questions to ask but will start with these. Thanks CC community!

See http://www.admission.virginia.edu/transfer/admissions

However, see http://www.admission.virginia.edu/transfer/faq#SAT

Thanks for the links. A further question abou the SAT though; I graduated in June of 2011, yet I will be applying to transfer for the fall of 2016. Thats 5 years, but my application to transfer is due March 1st, which is just under 5 years :expressionless: I understand if that question is a little more in depth and I’ll be needing to call admissions to find out. But if you could answer that, thanks! :stuck_out_tongue:
