I'd like some insight. I recently graduated with my B.S. in biology with a 2.9 GPA. I desperately want to apply for numerous masters programs for nutrition but I'm afraid I have no chance. I have found a few places that just look at the GRE scores and a few that have a gpa minimum of 3.0. I have read in many places that schools will still consider you with a lower than minimum gpa. I have almost 100 hours of community/volunteer work (including hours done overseas and leadership volunteer work) and in July, I gained a volunteer position as a dietary aide (I assist the director of food service, who is a licensed dietician) in a hospital here in NYC. My gpa suffered during undergrad due to a multitude of personal ups and downs but I am relieved to have brought it this far. What are your thoughts and advice (if possible)? Thanks so much!

I am in the exact same boat as you, same gpa from UCSC in Bio. B.S. I really want to get into a Masters of Nutrition program as well and worried about my low gpa. I am currently in the Peace Corps, although I still have a year left. Based on research, to boost my chances I am planning to go back to school for a few pre-reqs I have to take and get A’s to show I am serious. Then get good scores on the GRE’s while volunteering under a dietition in a hospital (CHOC). Don’t get discouraged, I know many of my friends getting into Bio masters programs with a gpa under a 3.0. I am most worried about getting accepted for the year long internship! Good-luck! Tell me how your process goes. I am going to start studying for my GRE’s in December. I am stuck in Africa now. I am going to e-mail advisors soon as well.

I am just seeing your post. It is great to see someone else in the same boat as me. As an update, I called the association for dietetics (eatright.org) and was notified to pursue my masters in a coordinated program. Only down side is that all of the coordinated programs near me are VERY expensive and far which would mean I would have to quit my job and relocate. Other requirements were 3.0 and GRE for some schools but in the long run there were a lot of schools available under my criteria. Im heading back to school to complete two pre-reqs and Im praying I get accepted somewhere, Im anxious to begin. Hope all went well for you, please give an update if possible, thanks.
