We got to see The Last Jedi and Jumanji over the holiday break with my two younger lads (one in med school, the other now a senior in college). We all liked The Last Jedi feeling it was much better than many other Star Wars movies (though Rogue One was better).
We absolutely loved Jumanji - such a FUN movie and well done. It tied in well to the first movie too (which we also liked). I’m thinking we like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart together as we also really enjoyed Central Intelligence some time ago.
I’d easily watch Jumanji again and my lads plan to with their college friends. The Last Jedi was a once and done for me.
My sister and I saw “All The Money in the World” last night and completely agree with the poster upthread - Christopher Plummer and Michelle Willams were terrific. Movie was well written and filmed, I hope to see it recognized for that. Overall excellent.
Looking forward to seeing “The Post” when it opens next week.
Has anyone watched “the shape of water” yet? Planning to watch it this weekend but was chickened our by the subzero coldness. Heard great reviews of it and we really like the director.
We saw Lady Bird again (having first seen it at the Toronto International Film Festival in September) and loved it even more the second time. It is a beautifully written, directed and acted film. Very happy for Tracy Letts, a longtime friend whom my D worked with at Steppenwolf several years ago. Laurie Metcalf may be the most underrated actor currently working.
I just saw The Shape of Water… hate to be a party pooper, but I wasn’t into it. Not my genre – maybe that was the problem. I will say the art direction was great, the the movie LOOKS gorgeous.
I also saw Three Billboards. I liked it and was hanging by a thread about the ending and boy was I dissatisfied! Nobody else on this thread seemed not to be bothered by the ending (or didn’t mention it) so I was surprised and disappointed at the same time.
Big BOOOOO for someone’s kid texting during a movie (a page or two back). EVERY theater says not to text or use cell phones during the film. It is disruptive to other moviegoers and very rude. And YAY for the theaters (I think there is a chain in Texas) who actually have the guts to follow through and kick people out who do this kind of b.s., thinking, I guess, that they are so special that the rules don’t apply to them.
I love seeing movies on the big screen, but am soooo freakin’ sick of having the experience ruined by various types of rude patrons.
Thank you for saying that. When I read the post that said that I thought not only did your kid text during a movie but you read the text??? I don’t care how bad you think the movie is, turn off your phone!
I saw Lady Bird yesterday and enjoyed it. Laurie Metcalf was excellent, she was my favorite part of the movie. I didn’t love it, but it’s one I do recommend seeing and didn’t mind paying theatre prices.
I have recently seen a handful of films in the theater.
Molly’s Game was really entertaining to watch, I’d recommend it! Husband and I enjoyed it. Very fast paced and had an overall “Oceans Eleven” vibe. Jessica Chastain was outstanding as Molly Bloom. I’d watch it again.
Murder on the Orient Express was so… Eh. I didn’t walk away feeling ripped off or like I had wasted my time, but I wasn’t in love with it either. It just sort of fell flat. While watching Kenneth Branagh play Hercule Poirot was entertaining, I was left feeling like most of the star studded cast’s talent was extremely wasted on the dry script. Visually beautiful though. As my husband put it “I wouldnt see it in theaters or even Red Box it, but I’d watch it on Netflix.”
The Darkest Hour was another phenomenal performance by Gary Oldman. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings on the accuracy or what aspect of Churchill’s life the writers chose to focus on but I really enjoyed his portrayal.
