Michael Richards, famous for his role as Kramer on Seinfeld, was in the middle of a performance at a comedy club last week when he got flustered by a group of people talking during his routine. He yelled out a string of extremely racist phrases, briefly engaged in a heated argument with someone in the audience, and then walked off the stage mumbling about people getting offended over words and how you shouldn't "interrupt a white man".

Here's the YouTube link if you want to see for yourself, but be warned that it contains some pretty offensive language.

I always thought Michael Richards was a Jew. Weird.

Anyway, I think this was a horribly failed attempt at something that only a handful of white comedians (George Carlin springs to mind) can do successfully; the rest should not even try. Richards lost his temper, yes, but he tried to turn it into something that just blew up in his face.

Do I think Richards is really that racist? No. Real racists don't do their thing on stage like that, in front of black people. I honestly believe that he was trying to be funny.

nothing wrong with racism, without it we would all be equal and nobody could ever get ahead of anybody else. Sure its not nice but it will never go away and if people are raciest againt you then well you have more to work for which is a good thing,

Yeah, I'm sure that screaming the n-word among in front of black audience members would sure make them laugh! Real racists actually say things quietly to themselves in their houses where no one can hear them, everyone knows that.

He threw a tantrum...ok? The way I see it is that he was irritated at being talked over and decided to "get back" at the people interupting his act.

I don't know (or care) if the guy is actually racist or not, but he definitely screwed himself over with that little outburst.

@KissMeKate -I do not have facts. I will state my assumptions. Therefore you have the power to bash me right and left about the credibility of my statements.

We laugh when we are uncomfortable. Is that not right?

I see Dave Chapelle making racist remarks. I hear he's doing quite well in the business (I bought his "lost episodes" quite hilarious I think)

The first few lines of what Michael Richards said was funny to me at first. Wrong, but yes I thought it was funny. However when he constantly yelled nigger I found myself scolding Mr. Richards. (if you picture me doing that in front of a computer screen...its kinda stupid really...how i was scolding him in FRONT of a computer screen.)

My friend is a racist. he constantly makes racists remarks about African Americnas. I find it funny at times but also find him ignorant AND arrogant.
However I have never seen him do anything to disrespect a AA. if anything he acts even more nice towards them.

I don't know if he's really racist or not but he what he did was stupid and outragous. I don't think he should expect people to ever look at him the way they used to.
I don't care if someone messes with you or your ****ed off but to say the things he did and in the manner he said them can't just be excused.

I think Richards had a bit too much to drink. Racist or not, no one in his/her right mind would say the things he said in public. His BAL had to be higher than a CCer's GPA (and that's pretty high!). Still, I think the things Richards said were quite offensive and were uncalled for, despite the fact that he was being heckled. Taking abuse from crowds is part of being a comedian. Even if he was inebriated, Richards definately should have kept his cool.

(PS: This incident couldn't have happened at a worse time since Seinfeld Season 7 is being released).

Some good may come out of his little outburst after all. I don't think it'll happen all at once, of course, but I'd like to think that this may be a step in the right direction. What do y'all think?
