Oh. My. I have never been rendered so speechless in my entire life. On the thread about Kramer's racist rant, here is what one poster had to say:

UB-Vinny77: "nothing wrong with racism, without it we would all be equal and nobody could ever get ahead of anybody else. Sure its not nice but it will never go away and if people are raciest againt you then well you have more to work for which is a good thing..."

Am I the only one here who thinks there is never an excuse for hate, be it racism, sexism, antisemitism, or bigotry?!? I do not care that Mel Gibson was drunk of Kramer was "just trying to be funny" (as another poster reconciled)...it is NEVER funny and always hurtful and should never be excused. Kramer can apologize all he wants...and I will probably keep watching Seinfeld...but to me there is NO excuse for racism, whether it is inconspicuous or not, out of character or not! I honestly cannot believe someone would ever let Kramer's rant pass as a failed joke or out of character. It's wrong and there is NO excuse.

Everyone has the right to his/her opinions, yes, but it is just plain ignorance to say otherwise!

No, like I said, "everyone has the right to his/her opinions"

I was saying that it is ignorant and racism in itself to defend racism...like a few posters did. I was reiterating how hateful and harmful it is to encourage/support/reconcile others' racism.

Basically the point of this thread was to say how harmful and hurtful racism is, how prevalent it still is, and how ignorant it is to think otherwise.

bendrumfront, i agree with you. but he was saying that to get an angry reaction and that's just what he got. i just try to ignore trolls at this point.

I've noticed (yes it's creepy, get over it) that you get really worked up over instances of discrimination. Instead of posting on a forum about it, do something about it, it'll help you feel better by helping solve the problem.

Fides-
Was that supposed to be a joke? Please, excuse my lacking sense of humor. (OK, I'll admit, the feminist part of Borat was the only part of the movie I wasn't rolling)

It's not a matter of a "thicker skin" or "ignoring" it, I was basically just saying I was surprised by how unaffected some posters seemed by Kramer's racist rant.
And, yes, I know, if I were to react to everything everyone said...well, I would drive myself crazy, but sometimes I just cannot look past certain things.

***, what has bendrumfront said that is "feminazi"...just because you are against discrimination doesn't mean you're nazi-like

Fides is a jerk, bendrumfront, ignore people like him. I'm just physically lazy and would rather not get worked up about things, while people like him are morally lazy and think it's ok that racism exists. But people like you are essential for the progress of the world. Keep up the outrage, it's the only way things will ever get done. Although I have to say, if you really want things to happen, you have to understand that you can't please everyone, and you can't get everyone to agree with you. Work despite them, not to spite them.

Well, for one, I hesitate to consider myself a "feminist" and I sort of resent the label, although it is convenient for focus groups and the such.

"Feminism" implies separatism, apartheid...whereas I would rather work for equality of opportunity for the sexes...not equality of the sexes (as we will never be equal, physiologically, psychologically...), and not female dominance (although this would not be such a bad idea, considering what the men leading this country have done...don't get me started)

Thus, I am really just a supporter/encourager of education, success, and opportunity for all females, and desire a society that is not led by either sex, but allows the sexes to work THROUGH eachother to achieve success without regard to...sex!

Thank you, I totally agree. I guess I am just used to men and women alike having that false stereotype of feminists. Still, it is not excusable.

The reason the jerks are getting worked up is that their consciences are pricking them, deep down. Did you see James Dobson on Larry King last night?
