I am a student that has currently applied to 5 schools (Marist College, Elon University, Uconn, Udel, and Virginia Tech). While I have heard of Hofstra before I never really thought it matched me until out of curiosity I started exploring it today (March 18th). I now realize I may want to apply there. When going to my email I saw that they sent me a Select Candidate Application. Should I bother applying? or is this more of a ploy to try and get more money from application fees?

Apparently, I’ve been getting the same e-mails you have been getting. I didn’t notice since I’m done with my college applications. One thing I can tell you is that that selective student application or whatever seems to exempt you from the application fee. So, I don’t think it’s a ploy or anything.

I have applied to several high ranked liberal arts colleges seeking for huge need-based aids. Like you, I was curious and tried to figure out if i wanted to apply to this college or not. Well at least from the glimpse I have taken from the website, they don’t seem to have huge scholarships that will cover my entire tuition or tuition + room&board. Even if they do, I didn’t find it. Seems to give out small scholarships to many ppl though (like many larger private colleges tend to do). If you are interested, you should apply, since the application doesn’t seem to much of a hassle.

Well I was given a $19,000 scholarship, so they can be relatively generous. I would go for it if you are interested.
