Selecting my humanities course

I am in the CoE as an EECS major. I have several questions about my humanities choice.
Upon looking at the list of the available courses that meet CoE requirements, I saw that I would really like to take Phil C25A. Is this course an easy one? If it is not, should I opt out for an easier class or stick to what interests me? I only ask this question because I do not want to be overloaded with work in my first semester. In addition, I see that I have the option of starting on my English requirements. Is taking the English course that satisfies the R&C requirement a wise choice in my first semester? Consider that I will be skipping English 1A due to AP credit.

Taking 1B first semester is fine, taking it second semester is fine. The nice thing about taking it first semester is you’ll be able to meet other freshmen, probably, and it might be a nice way to make friends.

25A should be a wonderful class but it will likely be different from what you’ve done in high school. It will require a good deal of time an effort, but my guess is that it will require fewer papers than 1B.

I’m definitely not going to take the English R&C class. I just don’t want to push it too hard my first semester. Nevertheless, I am still very torn on whether I should take Phil C25A or a generally easy humanities class. The problem is I want to have a high GPA for grad school yet I want to take classes I’m interested in.

I really don’t think you need to worry so much about your GPA for grad school at this point. You are at a world class university. 25A in the Fall is being taught by a real rising star in philosophy. If you don’t seize opportunities like this now, when in your life will you have the chance?
