Selective Interviews?

I got an email from a Yale alumnus for an interview who said “It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you of your selection for an interview for Yale College”. Does this mean I have been chosen for an interview because of my application? Is this a good sign?

From Yale’s website: https://admissions.yale.edu/interviews

Read nothing into it. Good luck on the interview.

Received interview notification today, but the interviewer said,"…basically this interview will play no role in your application, as decisions most likely have already been made…" Is that true? If it’s true why they wait another month to make announcements?

What the interviewer likely meant was that the interview was not going change a “yes” to a “no” or a “no” to a “yes”, and that the AO “most likely” had enough info from the other parts of the app already submitted to make a decision independent of the interview. The Committee that makes the final decisions meets throughout February and March up close to the decision release date.

I think the interviewer was (somewhat non-artfully) trying to say “don’t get too stressed about this.”
