I've heard (and read) that all males 18+ must register for the Selective Service in order to qualify for financial aid. If I haven't registered yet, does that mean I won't know my award package from Rice (if accepted) until I do so? And is financial aid on a first-come first-serve basis?
Any help appreciated.

If I know correctly, that only applies to federal aid, not college aid.

Just for federal aid, huh? Hmm, I was hoping so. Okay, thanks!

I believe you won’t know your financial aid package because your financial aid application is incomplete and Rice requires you fill out the FAFSA by March 1st. Federal aid and merit scholarships are on a first come first serve basis for sure.

Why are you against registering?

I’m not against it at all. I simply have yet to do it. I don’t know how quickly that information will get processed and when I’ll hear about my package from Rice.

Thanks guys. I just went back into my FAFSA and checked the box. Hope that does the trick.
