how selective is NYU? I bet there are so many applications..but from which schools are most selective to least selective ?

This question has been answered so many times. Use the search but because I’m feeling nice today:

Stern > Tisch (portfolio reasons) > CAS > Gallatin (usually) >

I don’t think it’s that cut and dry, although I’d say if you had to rank them that’s probably the order. Stern is definitely the hardest on numbers as they are VERY highly ranked and can therefore be very selective. Tisch may be harder than Stern just because of the portfolio, but in terms of numbers Stern isn’t. Gallatin is the easiest numbers wise (or at least one of the easiest) but they are very essay driven and are looking for a very particular type of person (independent, creative, driven). Hope this helps.

I don’t really think you can say that either Stern or Tisch is more selective than the other because they’re looking to two completely different things in their applicants. In all honesty, you don’t have to be THAT great of a student to get into Tisch (no offense intended to anyone) but you do need to be a very good performer or artist with evident potential. For Stern, you don’t need either of those things though they want students that are very good academically but also branch out of academia.

I, personally, think of Stern and Tisch at the same level. Maybe that’s just because I’m a Sternie that secretly wishes he was in Tisch as well. (Notice I said “as well” because I honestly do like Stern a lot so far.)
