Self-Reported Grades

I made a mistake on the self reported grades because I included classes from 8th grade and before. It drags down my GPA. Will they see that from looking at my transcript or should I send an email to my local admissions counselor?

Definitely contact them about the mix up. I’m sure it isn’t a problem. If you leave it unchecked you could be marked for fraud or simply denied for your lower GPA/carelessness.

Thanks for replying
Lets get into the specifics. So I just recently saw on their admissions FAQ

“Should I include my 8th grade coursework?
Course work from the 8th grade or earlier should not be included in Self Reported grades.”

Since I am out of state I assumed that they meant all 8th grade classes but I only included high school classes that I took in 8th grade. There were three classes, a math, language, and a social studies class. When I contact their admissions office, what do I tell them? I think it is kind of embarrassing because I submitted my regular decision app all the way back in November.

Also according to the admissions blog, “When we received your transcript, we will do a quick but thorough check of your self-reported grades, so do not panic if you made a slight error in your self reporting. As well, do not overthink this section, just put in what you believe is the correct information. You will be fine.” I don’t think that they will reject my application for fraud because the mistake I did hurts me. But I do not think that my GPA dropped that much and I am still very competitive to get in.

It sounds like an honest mistake to me. Still, I would go ahead and call them up. If anything this mixup will likely hold up your acceptance or any correspondance. Might as well give them a call. Schools of UGA’s size are use to thousands of phone calls every day. Expect a wait!

I would explain them the situation exactly as you have it written down. Just explain to them that you took some high school classes in middle school and you wanted to make sure that these classes should be accounted for in the application. Maybe you didn’t do anything wrong. Depending on the format or program where you took high school courses in middle school, you may have had to do that. Everything will be confirmed when they match up your transcript.

Give them a call just to give yourself peace of mind.

Good luck!

This doesn’t sound like too big of a deal. I’m sure admissions will understand the mix up. I’ll have to agree with everyone else. You should just call them up and let them know.
