There are schools that I got free applications too that I would like to apply to but I don't know if it's worth the 12$ fee to send scores. Do schools accept scores if I submit them myself? Or is there any alternative to sending "official score reports"

I don’t think there is alternative if the school requires test scores. But there are waiver for score report fee if you are eligible.

Majority of colleges require official scores sent by the testing agency. A shrinking minority accept scores if they appear on your official high school transcript. Neither of those accept scores that you just self-report. There are also a number of colleges that do not require any test scores. I don’t know if there are still any left that require test scores but allow you to just self-report them (and then provide official scores after being admitted). The UCs used to do that a number of years ago.
