Self-Study Algebra II in one month?

I was thinking about self studying algebra II over the summer for one month by myself, without a class or private teacher, just myself and some books. I will have a couple friends on the internet however that will be able to answer any random questions I might have though.

So I was wondering if you think its possible, and any tips on accomplishing this. I want to learn as much as would be needed to get through Precalculus next year. I dont want to spend TOO much time though, probably about 1-2 hours at most a day.

What do you think? Is it possible? Any book suggestions? Any tips, strategies or tactics you think I might find useful?

NOTE: I do have one book, its called "Mathematics: A Human Endeavor" which has most topics from Numerals, to Algebra, to Calculus. Its not extremely detailed in each topic ofcourse, but its a great overview. I plan to read that, and possibly suppliment it with another book focused on Algebra 2 like a study guide or even a regular book from Barnes and Nobles.

It is possible: I studied the whole Precalculus class erratically for nine weeks...with dedicated study it could be done in four. I recieved As for the next three semesters.

i did it....

Nice kman, I don't plan to learn precal in one month though :P that might be much more tough.

laxgirl, how did you do it? What was your plan, routine, strategies? What resources did you use?

why would u waste time doing that?

You could do it if you're extremely good at math. I can't, however, since I'm not.

@artic_monkey, how would it be wasting time if you are learning? But, the real reason is so that I can skip to precalculus next year without spending a whole year taking an Alg2 class, I think that's wasting more time. That way I can take AP Calculus in senior year.

@Olive_tree, well I can't say that I am extremely good at math. I am doing exceptionally well in geometry though. As for algebra, I mean, I'm sure the concepts won't be that tough that its impossible.

Algebra II mostly reviews concepts in Algebra I or expands on them a little bit so its highly possible. You definitely can learn the new concepts in a month.

I self-studied algebra II in about 6-7 hours of work time. then about 1 hour of refreshing all of the material. then about 1-2 hour of doing AMC problem relating to Algebra II.

it's definitely possible. There isn't much to cover in Algebra II. Get a review book.

i believe algebra ii is much more important than precalc to succeed in ap calc.

Yes, it is definitely possible. I self-studied the second half of a geometry textbook for two weeks. I learned the first half at a summer school.

thanks for the encouraging comments guys. Any suggestions on how much time a day is necessary for acomplishing the 4-week goal? Any good books (besides review books - for that I was thinking maybe cliff notes or something similar) I should check out?

I did it in 8th grade when I was board because I got placed in special ed math.

haha bill h pike. they did that to me as well, but i switched to alg2h frosh year.

i went to summer school, and literally, due to the 15 chapters of the book, we did a chapter a day, and finishied the book in 15 days (M, T, W, T, and F) and then had 5 days to review go over questions and kick back... so really, it depends on the chapters ur going... so really make sure to get the book ur school uses, so that u learn not too much and not too little of information... also, it took me like 2 hours a day??? like 1 hour to read the chapter and actually learn it from asking questions and stuff, and then the second hour to the practice problem... also if theres any additional time, i would then look at the day or week befores problems...

Yea, it's definetly possible, especially since it's Algebra II, the easiest of all high school math classes.

How hard is honors physics and chemistry self-study?

Could I do this with Pre-Calc over the summer? Took Algebra 2 this year, and i'm pretty sick of being bored in math...

bump.................

Yes it is doable. I got through half a Pre-Calc textbook in 1 weekend. I spent around 3 hours on Saturday and Sunday each. I studied all the functions and stuff and stopped before Trig.
