I am currently a sophomore. My school is really small, so it barely has any APs classes. So to keep up with the others, I want to self study some AP courses. So far, this year I'm going to take AP Cal AB (in school) and self-study Macroeconomics. But I wonder, should I self-study AP Biology, too? Last year as a freshman, I took Bio 1, and this year am taking Bio 2. Bio 2 isn't much harder than Bio 1; just covers other topics. I got As and A-s both years so far; I'm not totally good at memorizing. But if I put my mind to things, I do really well! (Not bragging haha sorry)
So is it worth taking AP Bio this year? I know it's sort of late, and if I want to take it I know I'll have to study extra hard. But I am willing to spend at least an hour everyday for studying. I don’t want to take the exam next year because I'll have forgotten everything I learned so far, and next year I'm planning to take at least 4 APs and I'll be swamped with SATs, too. Plus, my mom really wants me to take it this year too for the same reasons.
So is it worth taking the AP Bio exam this year? And are there any study books or sites that are recommended? Thank you so much!

If you’ve taken two Biology classes, I would definitely recommend taking it! My brother used Barrons AP Biology book and he made a 5 by self studying so I would definitely recommend barrons.

I took the test last year (got a 4) and lab experience was really helpful on a lot of questions. So as long as your Bio 2 class has substantial lab time, I would say self-study away!

Bio has also veered away from mere memorization. Now it’s more application, so you should definitely have enough time!

@CheerOutLoud our class barely does any labs, like once a month or two. Are labs very important?

I think you could do really well if you really put your mind to it and start self-studying now

Science AP exams tend to be difficult so self-studying would be a difficult task, but I think it would show good ambition.

If you have a firm grasp of what’s going on you can probably still do well. I don’t think lab experience is a necessity, it would just be very helpful in my opinion.
