Self Study AP Exams

I’m looking to self-study the following exams next year -
AP Human Geo
AP Euro
AP Environmental Science
I’m taking WHAP in an actual class

My school bars us from taking more than one AP class (i go to an overpopulated school on the outskirts of Manhattan that rarely gets any ivy admits), and my guidance counselor is super strict. How do i self study these and do you think it is a good idea to do so?

The bigger question is: Why? If your school offers the classes, it’s better to take the class, even if it’s not next year. If you’re hoping to impress colleges with your initiative, they won’t be impressed.

Seeing as AP scores are self-reported, self-studying for AP exams will have next to no effect on your chances at any school, so unless you’re doing this due to an interest in the subjects or a desire to earn college credit, then I suggest you save your time for other, more pertinent activities, such as extracurriculars.

IMO your time would be better spent focusing on your actual HS classes and participating in EC activities.

There’s a reason your school doesn’t want you to spend your high school years overloading on college credit courses.

The main reason why I want to self study AP classes is because i genuinely love to learn and plan on getting the AP Scholars award with distinction, as well as to demonstrate to research summer programs that I can succeed in harder classes. Can you answer any of these questions based on that? bump

  1. Love to learn - great! Take the classes
  2. Want college credit? Fine…but make sure it is not at the expense of your regular HS courses or ECs
  3. AP Scholars award with distinction…this is cool and all…but is not useful for college admissions
  4. Research programs… AP Human Geo and AP Env are not really considered super hard. They will be more interested in your actual classes/GPA I would think
  5. College Admissions…doesn’t help. Many people take AP tests senior year after they are already admitted. Colleges don’t generally take AP scores into account. They take your GPA/SAT into account

As usual, I agree with every @bopper says above.
