Due to scheduling errors and placement of other classes, the only AP science available to me this year is Environmental Science (Which I am happily taking!); however, going into junior year, I really am opening to the idea of self-studying AP Physics 1, as I believe this is my last year to get a foot in the door and get Physics under my belt. What i’m wondering, is if self studying is a possibility. If it’s possible for me to sit in for the Physics 1 AP, and do reasonably well. I also want to know if colleges will care about my obtaining of this knowledge outside of a classroom setting.
Depends on the student, but yes, it’s possible.
Nope, they won’t care.
Talk to your GC about possibly taking an online course for credit?
Also I think colleges do care that you self-study…they want you to take classes for credit. If you want to get AP credit, that is cool, but that is not really something colleges look at in admissions.
My school required me to take AP Physics 1 as a freshman and it was torture. Coming from a freshman perspective, I wouldn’t recommend self-studying this class because it is very very difficult. However, if you put your mind towards it and really work hard to understand every concept in the curriculum, then you might be capable of self-studying it and do well on the test.
