Hey guys, I'm new here and am wondering how hard it would be to self-study AP world. I'm going to be a sophomore in honors world history next year, but would really like to take the AP test. Any suggestions on which books/techniques to use to study?

I did not take the AP World History test but took the AP Euro exam sophomore year. If you love history (History Channel is one of my fav channels and I used to read history textbooks for fun), you will pass even if you have a horrible teacher. Our teacher seriously sucked. The class was super easy and so only 40% of us actually passed.
I would recommend doing the reading assignments regularly. DON'T LAG BEHIND! Actually pay attention to your teacher's lectures! Tell your teacher about your plans on taking the exam and ask for some help with the essays and DBQs. Next, buy a test prep book. I would get REA with the CD. It covers stuff in much more detail than the AP Exam but it helps a lot. Finally watch a lot of documentaries. I remember watching a documentary on the Six wives of Henry VIII the summer before high school and a essay question on that came up. :)

Good Luck!!

Dude I am doing the same exact thing, Haven't started yet, but I'm about to buy a review book, and by the way theres a $30 late fee now for taking the AP Exam. My AP coordinator waz a real ***** so I can't take it in my school, so Im despertly searching for school's that might take me in to take the test. Its spring break, schools open on April 24th. I Hope it works out for me, LOL. If you want to study go ahead.:P You can contact me on AIM= SalhadinX

Yeah I don't think it would be too difficult at all. Pick up a couple textbooks (out class used "Traditions and Encounters," but I would rec "The Earth and It's Peoples," too) and read them (as said before, stick to a strict schedule). Apart from that, as long as you keep up with the reading, you should be okay.

What happens if 2 AP exams are on the same day? Can you take one of them on another date?

I'm in exactly the same boat as you--I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to take World History AP next year, but there's still hope. Otherwise I'll self-study. Btw, jojodevka, do you live in Iowa? I think I might know you.

if they're on the same day and at the same time (both morn or afternoon session) talk to your ap coordinator and you can take one of them at a desiginated make-up period.

will I have to pay an extra fee?

nope, not Iowa. I'm from NYC.

you shouldn't have to. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/cal_late.html

however, you can't get your FR booklet and your scores will be delayed slightly (up to a month).

hope this helps

Thanks a bunch, ziggytheman (you're the man!)

lol, jojodevka, I confused you for someone else I knew, who I haven't spoken to in a while :(
