Self study AP?

I was wondering how difficult it is to pass with a four or better on an AP test by self studying. I have never tried this before, and the last thing I want to do is pay eighty seven dollars and not pass the test. I am interested in this because my school doesn't offer that many AP courses. If this is recommended, which tests would you recommend to self study for a more languages/humanities oriented student (not science), and what methods of study should I use?

It is not hard to get a 5 on some AP tests with self studying. Since you’re oriented, go with Human Geography, it is easy to self study. Psychology is technically a humanities course (social science), but in my opinion it’s more like a science class (although not a “hard science” like biology, chemistry, or physics, it’s definitely comparable to AP Environmental science); it is very easy to self study too but if you really hate science then don’t do it. Anyway, Human Geography is good. English Language is easy to self study (or you can take it without studying at all or taking the class if you’re a strong English student), but your school probably offers it. If not, go for that one as well. English Literature is harder to self study but also quite doable. Some people self study history successfully but those take a lot more work; the depth + breadth of knowledge required in European, World, US, or Art History is very great, so you would need to put a lot of time in. My recommendations are definitely Human Geography, English Language/Literature. Some science/math exams are really easy to self study but if you really aren’t a science/math person, you probably shouldn’t.

Thanks! I’m thinking of doing Psychology, because it’s one if the only “sciences” I like. I might do the English language too, because I known could pass, but my top school doesn’t offer credit for it so it seems pretty pointless to me.

I self studied psych and environmental science, got a four on both. I only studied 2 days prior to the exam literally for the psych exam. I was skeptical at first of how this whole self studying thing goes, but woah, I still can’t believe I passed it that easily. Just get barrons and prepare for like 2 weeks i’d say for a 5.
