Self-study for AP macroeconomics?

I’m a sophomore and i want to self study for the next test in may. Is January too late to start? my gpa is a 3.54 and im not sure if im smart enough to do it. Should I try?

Also; if i should decide to do this, what text books/prep books should I use?

Why not wait until you have the class? I’m sure that Econ is for 12th grade nationwide, right? I would just wait. Don’t they have APWH at your school? Are you taking it?

But if this is something you want to do, Princeton Review I hear is really good. You should know the top dogs when it comes to AP: Barron’s, PR, and 5 Steps.

Mind you, I recommend just waiting for the class senior year.

Princeton Review is the most concise book and, in my experience, contains everything needed to self-study for a 5 in both AP Econ tests.

@AMan236 I don’t think so; econ is a freshman class at my school, but we don’t have AP Econ at all (or APWH, for that matter). It might be that OP just wants opportunities outside of their school.

Anyway, to the original question – don’t let your GPA hold you back! It’s not by any means an indicator of your capacity to learn; if you’re interested in learning economics, then you should go for it. A semester is definitely enough time to learn all of the material in Princeton Review.

my school only has 4 or 5 AP classes and macro econ is not one of them

AP econ is one of the easiest APs you can take. My social studies teacher for last year had several of his students self study it and they all got 5s. My teacher says the best prep book is 5 steps to a 5, and since I have it myself, I can verify.

Only do it if it’s a personal passion of yours. Just don’t do it because u think it’ll improve your college admissions chances. AP scores are not used for admissions decisions.
