I want to know whether i should take the MacroEconomics test. I would have to self study for the subject. Does the subject require much time? Say i were to study only on weekends... how much hours would i have to devote to it each weekend(starting september) till may.

Personally, I didn't find the Macro test that hard. It's pretty straight forward stuff, and if you're good at memorization, it isn't that bad. Obviously, you have to apply the information in certain situations, but that's fairly simple to do.

I can't say how much you'd need to study, because it depends. My class didn't even start Macro until late March/early April, and even then, we only studied from Barron's. Maybe starting in September is a little too early? As long you periodically review past material, and review at least the week before test day, you should be fine.

Are you or will you be in micro?

Both econs can be self studied, but unless you have intrinsic interest in the material Sept is a little too early. It is never too early to read, but if your intention is test prep > learning your time may be better pursuing your course load/other interests. If not already overloaded and you have some interest in Economics material read some of the popular nonfiction such as Naked Economics, Hidden Order, and More Sex is Safer Sex during the Fall and then get the test prep book of choice come January. A little every week is better than last minute cram session to give yourself your best shot at a 5, but the 4 is available to many people that cram well.

If you are math inclined and not already in Micro it view it to be a more acessible exam for students on their own, but motivated students can get to a high level of competancy in a short period of time in both. I helped 30 people test prep for one or the other last year, but they had a course for at least one econ.

Good Luck!

no im not in a macro class. I have a couple of macro books from my dad's college.... so i was thinking about reading them until like feb... then buying a review book and read that! Good plan?

from what i've heard, micro is easier to study for than macro
