Self-study for AP Spanish with no prior spanish knowledge?

I’m going to be a junior next year and I’m wondering if it would be possible to self-study for Spanish enough that I’ll be able to take the AP exam by the end of my senior year. I’ve never taken a Spanish class before and really don’t know anything at the moment beyond the little bit I’ve learned with Duolingo, but I learned latin pretty fast and learning languages is something I’m pretty good at, so I thought since I’ll have two whole years (including 2 summers) to prepare for it it might be doable.

I don’t have any practical reason for wanting to take the exam, I mainly just think it would be a fun challenge to set for myself, so it’s not a big deal if this isn’t really possible.

I’ve heard it’s a really hard exam so if this isn’t possible I dont want to waste the time/money

Does anyone have any advice for whether this is doable? If it is, how intensive would it be? What resources would you recommend for actually learning the language on my own? (I’m guessing I’ll need more than Duolingo lol)

I highly doubt you’d learn enough to pass the exam.

I took advanced Spanish classes abroad for two years and was told I still hadn’t learned enough to do well on that exam. If you don’t need it, and don’t want to waste your money, I’d recommend you don’t try it. It’s a very hard exam that is normally taken by native Spanish speakers or by people who have been in long term Spanish programs.

NOPE

If you want to learn Spanish, that’s great, but IMO it’s a total waste to try to sit for the AP without going through regular Spanish classes. Focus on your school work and ECs

This is a bad idea for so many reasons.

But I would keep playing with duolingo, watching Spanish language film and TV, and pursuing the interest on your own. You can take Spanish in college (if not sooner), study abroad, and really master it if this is an interest of yours. You’d be selling yourself short to try to do something on your own that exists for the purpose of communicating with others!

This is a waste of money and time. No.
