So. I may end up at a U of M TC, business school. Quite possibly. I really really don't want to have a 200 people pysch class, so I am contemplating self-studying AP Pysch. Is it easy or hard? When should I start?

It’s pretty easy.

I’m starting Feb, but that’s because of personal testing reasons. I’d say its better if you start as soon as possible.

I agree that you should start as soon as possible. Some people on CC have supposedly picked up a prep-book two nights before and have gotten a 5.

^People on CC are very smart :)

^
Oh really? o.0

It’s term based, so the earlier you start the better. Unless you can easily pick up 250+ terms in two nights you should start soon.

its very easy to self-study. do it!

I know this is CC, but AP Psych truly is easy to self-study. I have no clue how the national average for the exam is so low, but that exam really is nothing but a giant vocabulary test on lots of psychology terms, and the exam requires very little insight or problem-solving.

However, it isn’t that easy. If you think you can just devote a few hours the day before the exam preparing for the test and ace it (yes, some people on CC have done it, but I personally think they just got very lucky), you are very wrong. This course definitely still requires work, but it’s just a lot easier than other AP classes. Just get a good review book (PR or Barrons are both good), and memorize it thoroughly (this is the tough part… do NOT procrastinate doing this). Then do some old AP exams when you have the time, and you’ll be golden. If you want, get an old edition of a psych textbook (I personally like Myers) to thoroughly learn the subject. Again, there is a very high emphasis on vocabulary on this exam. As long as you get a pretty decent understanding of each vocabulary word tested, you should easily get a 4-5 (most likely a 5).

Oh yeah, the number 1 pitfall for self-studiers is starting too late. It’s perfectly doable and pretty easy if you can start studying early. Overall, at the end, I’d say this exam requires only 30-50 hours of coursework total (MUCH MUCH less than other AP courses).
