Self Study World History in a Month?

All right guys, here's the deal:

Back around October-ish, my best friend and I had the brilliant idea of signing up for an extra AP exam, though we had not taken the AP class. The idea behind signing up for World History was that self-study could be done, so why not?, and besides that, history was our subject, we had had a decent world history honors class the year before, and the AP Euro exam we were taking this year would help. So we signed up. In my school, you can sign up, but not pay until much much later.

We're not best friends anymore--to say the least. So that studying together never got done. A month ago, I decided that I wouldn't want to take this test because there just wasn't enough time to study. So I tried to hunt down the AP people at my school, but they were busy with FCAT, and I just couldn't find them.

A day ago, the AP woman came to my class asking me for the money for the exam. I told her that I didn't want to take the test, but she said it was too late. She wrote down on a paper, not taking the test, and made me initial my name, but said that if anything, I could talk to her boss, the test chair guy. So it seems I have a few options:

Take the test. This would cost me about $86 bucks, but I probably won't get a very good score.

Not take the test. This would cost me the $86 bucks but also an extra $13 bucks for not showing up for the exam. What I want to know; would colleges know that I ordered the test but didn't take it and would that reflect badly on me? If any of you didn't show up for your AP exams, could you tell me if it comes out in the report anyway?

I could also take the test, but withhold the score--but again, would that reflect badly on me?

And if I just cancel the score, would the colleges know that I took the test in the first place? Because obviously, I wouldn't cancel a good score.

And is it possible to self-study for the AP World History in a month for a 4/5/hopefully5 when I have four other AP exams to study for already?

Opinions, please!!

I'm self-studying AP WH as well and I haven't really started...I plan to do some serious prep over Spring Break though. I would recommend you take the exam though since AP Euro is 40% of AP World and all you will need to really study is the Asian/Ancient/African dynasties and stuff. Also, you should be well prepared to handle the essays since they follow the same exact format as the ones for the other AP history tests like Euro(thematic+DBQ).

Good luck!!!:)

Any other opinions?

I don't see how they can force you to pay $13 if you don't take it.=, I don't even see how they can make you pay for it if they hadn't already ordered it yet. But if you paid for it, study, take it, and see how you do, just don't send it to any colleges. Think: colleges get thousands of applicants they're not going to really go look for something that wouldn't change you as a candidate all that much.

They already ordered it. :( Since I'm a sophomore, could I just take it, see how I do, and if I get less than what I want, cancel the score?

Yea, that's what I suggest doing. On it there is a little thing that asks what colleges yo want to send it to, just don't send it anywhere. And get it and look at it, if you do well, awesome, if not, oh well, you're out $86.

well if ur gonna self study in a month i suggest swallowing the books. there is a TON of detail. also familiarize urself with the 3 essays and make sure that u include the important things to get the points. id suggest princeton but it misses some information. barrons is detailed so if u swallow that u'll be just fine. im taking it too and i really want a 5 so yeah those r the two books ive been using and its been good so far. good luck

Thank you! I think I'm gonna try for that 5 in a month--who knows, maybe it'll all work out...
