Self-Studying 5 APs (Advice Needed)

All of them look like good self studies except chem. rethink that

Well you can definitely self-study Chem, but it would take a lot of time on your part that may jeopardize your other AP scores.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the amount of people who commented on this thread. At the moment the only thing I’m unsure about is APES, so if anyone had personal experience self-studying that and could give me advice that would be great. I think I’m going to end up self-studying chem using Zumdahl 7th edition, PR, and Barron’s (2 review books so I can take more practice tests).

Just get the Barron’s book for AP Statistics. I started studying for it two nights before the exam. After I took the AP Bio/ Physics C doubleheader I came home and started the book and skipped school the next day to study. I finished the book the morning of the exam and easily got a 5. A lot of the stuff is like algebra 1, mean, range, combinatorials etc… Just take a couple of practice exams to gauge your progress while reading it and you should be fine since they essentially repeat the same frqs every year with different numbers.

I self studied Stats this year and used the 5 Steps to a 5 book for Statistics and the Barron’s book. I think I started maybe around February with my studying. I would recommend looking at past practice tests especially this year’s FRQs. The 5 Steps to a 5 really does help with inferential statistics and covers a lot of material. I didn’t even need a textbook. In the end, I got a 5. I think Zumdahl’s 7th edition is enough for AP Chem. Just be sure to go over the questions at the end of each chapter to make sure you understand everything. Zumdahl was our textbook for my AP Chem class. Everyone basically got 5’s.

I came up with a final list. Ordering everything tomorrow, just in case anyone has any additional comments.

AP Stats: The Practice of Statistics 4th Edition, Barron’s, 5 Steps to a 5
AP Chem: Zumdahl’s 7th Edition, PR, 500 Qs from 5 Steps to a 5
AP Psych: Barron’s (using appsychology.com and other online resources)
AP HuGe: Barron’s, REA w/ CD-rom
AP Env: PR, Smartypants, REA

Solid list? This is the best I could come up with after hours and hours of researching…

princeton review is better for human geography

The bigger question…what are you trying to prove? That you’re a good studier?

Murphy, I mentioned my motives for self-studying in the first sentence of the original post.

Hi skisoccer2014 and everyone else,

I just want to first thank everyone for the support they gave skisoccer and other people in his situation like me

I am also self-studying 5 AP classes this year. I am doing psych, enviro, stats, macro, micro. So the majority are similar to skisoccer.

Currently I have similar books to what skisoccer has but I want to make sure that I too have what it takes to get 5’s on these selfstudies.

For psych: I have Barron’s and Barron’s Flashcards
For enviro: I have Princeton Review, Smartypants, and Barrons flashcards

For psych and enviro, Are these things above enough?

For stats, I cannot decide between using a textbook or not. Is Barron’s and/or other prep books enough?

For micro/macro, I also cannot decide between using a textbook or not? Is PR and/or other prep books enough?

Thank you all so much for your input. I look forward to your opinions.
