I was thinking about Human Geo and Psych, but I don’t even know how I would go about that since the deadline is passed to sign up.

It is? Our school ends monday…

I am reposting my questions because no one has answered them yet.

This thread has answered so many of my questions! Thanks oasis!

I haven’t read through all of the thread, so I do have a few other questions:

Is it possible to take foreign languages as AP if you take the elementary courses as dual enrollment?

Is it also possible to take dual enrollment classes without taking the dual enrollment exam, and then taking the AP exam in order to get both high school credit and college credit?

I am a freshman and am planning my Sophomore year registration is due next week and I am wondering whether I should self study some of the APs. Here are the APs I am thinking of taking next year:

-AP World History
-AP Biology
-AP Statistics or AP Calculus AB

The thing is that I am still in Algebra 2 and I plan to take Pre-Calculus over the summer, but I was wait-listed for AP Calculus AB. So I am replacing the class with AP Statistics. There is a possibility that I could still get into AP Calculus AB from now until August because of FCAT scores but it is unlikely. Do you think I should self-study AP Calculus AB or take it online?

I am also thinking of self-studying AP Psychology this year and take the exam this May. Do you think this is possible if I am taking AP Human Geography as a class right now? Also, what materials do I need to self study AP Psych?

I know self-studying APs may look better for those who go to schools with little or no AP classes. My school has 22. But they are mostly math, science, and history based. I am very interested in learning French and German but my school only offers AP Spanish Lang and Lit. Should I take elementary level dual enrollment classes in French and German and then self-study AP French and AP German?

Thanks very much in advance.

From College Board:

Schools in the United States, U.S. territories, and Canada have an ordering deadline of April 8, 2011. The deadline for all other schools is April 1, 2011. Each order received after the deadline will incur a $50 late fee (excluding alternate exam orders).

It’s not too late to sign up for the exams this year. I will be taking the AP Human Geography exam and am self-studying AP Psychology for the exam this May as well. I plan to order the AP Psych exam sometime after spring break.

^ That’s great. But how would I go about ordering the exams?

I’d also just like to say that from what I’ve read, Barrons is the way to go for both AP Human Geo and AP Psych. That’s what I’m going to do.

To order the exam, you would have to ask your guidance counselor. In Florida, the exam costs $87 but you can bring it down to $57 with financial aid. If you don’t live in Florida, ask your guidance counselor for the cost of the exam as I am not sure if the cost differs in other states. My guidance counselor told me to have me (or was it my parents?) write a note saying that I want to take the AP Psychology exam and just give him the check. He will take care of ordering the exam since the school needs to make sure they know how many students are taking the exam so they can order the right amount.

I did talk to my AP Coordinator, and since my school has already ordered the exam for the one AP in my class, this seems kind of unlikely. My best chance is taking the AP exams at a different school. My only problem is that other schools’ deadlines might have passed also, although the final deadline for ordering is April 8. What should I do? I’d really like to self-study 4 AP classes.

Yes, you will probably have to take the exam at a neighboring school. You should call AP Services at 609-771-7300 and ask them for a list of AP Coordinators in your area. Once you get the phone numbers, call and explain to them the exams you want to take.

Your school has ordered the exams very early. Exams are usually ordered around the last week of March to the first week of April. Hopefully you will find a school that will order the exam for you.

what brand would you say is the best for a review guide

Do you think I could try the APUSH test? Am currently in honors…

Or should I prep myself as well as a self studier would, ( I am completly fine with a 3 )

If you mean for AP Psychology, the best book is Barron’s. If you want, get Princeton Review as well for the bolded key terms.

You should probably look through a prep book to familiarize yourself with the test, but other than that, you don’t have to go in depth if you are taking the honors class.

Thanks aimhigh :)

I have the REA prep book
Hopefully that will do

Im in three AP classes this year AP governement AP U.S. History and AP Human Geography
what review guides would you say are the best for these classes

Also I wanted to ask you I want to take the following
AP Chemistry…online
AP Physics…online
AP Biology…class
AP Calculus…class
AP Statistics…class
AP Environmental Science…none
AP Psychology …none
AP Microeconomics…class
AP Macroeconomics…none
AP Lit & Comp…class
AP European History…none
AP World History…none
AP Comparative Government…none

is it even worth taking the online class or should i just self study

I have other unimportant classes Im required to take but I would strongly appreciate your insight on which ones to self study and which ones to take at my school above the ones with the periods behind them are offered and I would appreciate the help on which ones to self study in which years. By taking this many would colleges be impressed and would I be able to get scholarship money so I could go to a good school, becuase with my financial situation I am kind of worried about just having to go to a bad college because of it. Thanks for your time

Hello all, I also have questions about self-studying APs. As you know the AP tests are in May, but my school’s ordering deadline is this week. I took an AP Psychology class over the summer and even though I haven’t touched the review book yet (been concentrating on April ACT), I am definitely planning on taking the AP test in May.

My question is this: In addition to Psychology, is there any other AP subject (singular) that I could literally start self-studying now (March 18th - or within the next couple weeks) and expect to do well on the AP test? In other words, what are the easiest APs to self study in the shortest amount of time, or would you recommend I stick to only doing Psychology this year?

Thanks in advance.

AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography are other easy self-studies for you to do in that time period.

Are you up to self studying 3 easy AP exams? If you are, then you can take all 3. Seeing as your ACT is in April, you could still study for AP Environmental Science, AP Psych, and AP Human since it doesn’t take long to learn the material. Some people have only studied a week before the test and got 5s.

However, if you believe you don’t have the time to focus on all 3 exams, then study for either AP Environmental or AP Human Geography along with your AP Psych. APES is really easy, especially if you have the SmartyPants book. Princeton Review is also a good book for APES. AP Human Geography requires only reading Barron’s a couple of times for a 5. See which one you like best to go with AP Psych and take your pick if you aren’t able to do all 3.

@beste32

The best review guides are:

AP Government - 5 Steps to a 5
AP U.S. History - Amsco or REA
AP Human Geography - Barron’s

@beste32 (again)

Also I wanted to ask you I want to take the following
AP Chemistry…online (11th grade)
AP Physics…online (11th or 12th grade)
AP Biology…class (10th grade)
AP Calculus…class (10 or 11th grade, depends on what math class you are in)
AP Statistics…class (12th grade, depends on when you take AP Calculus)
AP Environmental Science…self-study (9th or 10th grade)
AP Psychology …self-study (9th grade)
AP Microeconomics…class (12th grade)
AP Macroeconomics…self-study or online (12th grade)
AP Lit & Comp…class (12th grade)
AP European History…self-study (11th or 12th grade)
AP World History…self-study or online (10th grade)
AP Comparative Government…self-study (10th or 11th grade, it’s best to take it along with or right after taking AP Government)

online classes are great, especially if the classes aren’t offered at your school. it shows that you are finding other means to expand your knowledge along with the courses you are taking at school. Some AP classes, like AP Psych and APES are better as self-studies since they are the easiest exams to take.

Hope this helps.

Im a sophmore this year so I wont be able to do any in 10th grade

Oh, well that changes everything.

AP Chemistry…online (12th grade)
AP Physics…online (12th grade)

AP Calculus…class (11th grade, depends on what math class you are in)

AP Environmental Science…self-study (11th grade)
AP Psychology …self-study (11th grade)
