I'm a sophomore and I currently have no APs (school doesn't offer them really until junior year, and not the good ones until senior). I'm taking AP World next year, and in my senior year I'll be taking all the big ones (Calc, Pysch, etc.). Next year I'm taking Analysis also, along with Physics, English, and Latin (all honors). How should I go about independent study for AP tests. Are there some tests that are easier to independently study for than others? Any recommendations for tests?

If you're going to enter in a specific field then focus yourself on those APs to study. Keep in mind that colleges like to see that you are testing your limits by taking an AP class but not taking the class and taking the test isn't half as impressive. Also, I'd recommend you self-study psychology and statistics if you're just looking to take random AP tests. But seriously, don't take the test unless you are: A) competing for an AP award or 2) looking to go into that field when you are in college (or looking to get credit for the course in college).
Another point i would like to make is that you can take any course you like as long as you are at that level and are willing to test into the class. But trully all you need to do is take it to the school board or just bring your parents in to personally talk to your counselor. I had the exact same situation but got myself out of it simply making the point that high school is meant to foster growth and to keep up with the demands of a student's potential and ambition. They can not stop you from learning so go ahead.
Apparently in my school no APs go out to freshman or sophs but in my freshman year i took AP French Lang., then in sophomore year i took AP French Lit. and AP Psych.
