Self studying for AP bio, what are some good textbooks to use?

could anybody give me an idea or two?

i also want to know, takin bio jan28

Well, the book we use in our AP Bio class is very easy to understand and extremely helpful... "Biology, seventh edition" by Solomon, Berg and Martin.

i think thats what i used. even so, i basically read the pton review the weekend before the test. still i only got a 4 so i dunno if that is a good idea. still i think if i just spent 2 weekends on it i would have done better lol. still im good at bio.

Um, actually, I'd recommend the Cliffs notes Biology AP book. Get it off Amazon. It goes through all the labs (essential if you're self-studying since you can't exactly self-lab) too. Most people recommend it as a study guide. I don't know about an entire textbook; Most people use Campbell but it's pretty massive :)

So go with the Cliffs Notes book. If you look at the reviews on Amazon most people choose it as the best AP Bio study guide. Good luck, this is a toughie to self-study!

I use Campbell and it sucks - very uninteresting and the way he writes is sooooo boring.

Yeah I hate Campbell soooo much. Just details upon details. can't absorb a thing...this is a 800 CR talking too! God...I wish I had some science talent or something. Damn AP Bio!!! Well, it's the study books for me.

I used Campbell. And AP Cliffs. AP Cliffs was AMAZING. but I also memorized two thirds of Campbells. The cover was pretty. Anyway, the only bad thing about Campbell is that it's SOOOO heavy. But AP Cliffs is definately helpful. I also went on the net and searched for the 12 AP labs the AP Biology focuses on. And studied every single one of them until perfection. When I took the test, i knew EXACTLY how to approach the first lab question. it was really really helpful.

I use Campbell and while it is boring at times, it's not too hard to understand. Just use the diagrams and pictures. Also I'd recommend using LOTS of old problems from past AP Bio tests. That helps a lot.

I self-studied for Bio and got a 5 using a combination of Cliffsnotes and Princeton Review. Basically i read both of them cover to cover, then skimmed through to catch the more difficult stuff like cellular respiration and photosynthesis.

I love my Campbell. It's...like second to my best friend in my affections. Really. It's a little hard to understand. And massive. But it's a really good book.
