Self Studying Human Geography

Bonjour,

Am going to be self-studying AP Geography next year, any suggestions for the best possible book to use? I’ve got an empty house for 2 weeks and I don’t wanna be completely useless so I might as well get a head start :)

PEACE.

Not Barron’s. According to people on this forum, Barron’s for Human Geography screwed them over ;).

what book then would be the best for human geography?

Yeah what book than? Help me! :P

Princeton Review.

Any actual textbooks? That I can use to get a 5 on.

A textbook is overkill.

Don’t really mind to be honest, the topics interest me. I would like to read it in its fullest detail. Sooooooo. … . .

What textbooks do the schools use, and what would be the best? What’s the most detailde study guide by the way?

Oh. In that case, that’s fine. I self-studied, so I have no idea on what the best textbooks are.

What was your grade, and what would you suggest?

James Rubenstein’s an introduction to Human Geography was really good. I would recommend it if you had a lot of time. You are wasting your time if you are studying now. All you need really is Barron’s and common sense.

Barron’s was completely fine. I took the class and got a 5 on the exam with minimal effort.

Double you ti eff.

Barrons is the best. I got a 5 self study week before…don’t overkill human geo. Please.

i took it freshman year and screwed up and got a 3 :(! but i’m self studying it this year. at my school we used: [Amazon.com: Human Geography: Culture, Society, and Space (9780471441076): H. J. de Blij, Alexander B. Murphy: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Human-Geography-Culture-Society-Space/dp/0471441074/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1309498474&sr=1-3)

does anyone know if the Princeton Review 2010 edition and the Barron’s 3rd edition can still be used to study for the 2012 test date? Or are they too outdated ? thanks!

I used Princeton Review 2010 a week or 2 before the exam and got a 4. I underestimated the exam however… I don’t know how people can start reading the book on the way to the testing center and manage a 5, or so they claim. The majority of the questions are not necessarily common sense, but rather, knowing random facts. The curve wasn’t as lenient as I had expected. The PR book itself should be sufficient for a 5 though.

I self studied with the Princeton review and got a 5. Another book I read though was The Power of Place by Harm de Blij. I don’t know if all of it was that helpful but I found it interesting and I would recommend it just as an addition to your review books.

I got a 4. Not what I wanted but still gives college credit at universities that accept AP Human Geography. I used the Princeton Review prep book along with Barron flashcards and the Rubenstein textbook. If I used the Kaplan flashcards I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a 5. The vocab and examples on 2011 MC were unusual.

so barrons or princeton???

Barrons. Got a 5…didn’t use anything else.

Just make sure you can apply the concepts you learn to real countries. That’s where you use Google! :)
