Background:
I'm in a bit of an odd situation: I have been suffering with a chronic illness since the beginning of my freshman year. Due to my persisting condition, I have been in and out (mostly out) of school the past few years (I am going to be a senior in the fall of 2014). Sophomore year I was placed on home instruction (where teachers come to the house to give me work), and Junior year I did all online courses that were administered, approved and paid for by the school. However, I was never allowed to take any honors or AP courses, because the school felt it would be too much for me to handle while also battling with my health.
With that being said, for my senior year, I intend to go back to school, however I am only cleared for a half day. Therefore, out of 8 course slots (4 course slots in the morning and 4 course slots in the afternoon), I will only be taking 4/8 courses in the afternoon. The school requires English and Physical Education as graduation requirements (2/4 used), I love math and intend to go into business so I will take a 4th year of a math class: Pre-Calc/Trig Advanced Math, and for my 4th and final course, I have my first choice as AP Statistics, and my backup as an elective: Marketing and Advertising.

Question:
Upon visiting colleges recently, I realized how critical the rigor of my high school classes is. And despite my circumstances and the school not allowing me in years past, I still feel like I should have some sort of rigorous classes. I am extremely interested in taking AP Microeconomics and/or AP Macroeconomics (I understand a lot of the concepts involved in those classes). Unfortunately, however, my school does not offer either of these courses. However I did find an online school that will allow me to take them independently and will send a transcript to myself and the colleges I apply to.
(On a side note, I am possibly interested in self-teaching myself AP Biology since I enjoyed biology, but would like to focus on the Economics courses.)

Since I am not taking the AP Econ's courses with the school, will the school allow me to take the AP exams when everyone else in the school does? When I called the online school, they stated that I would take my AP exams at my local district administering it, which I would assume is my school. If my own school does not let me take the AP exams, will they allow me to miss my classes to take the specific AP exams are administered at given times? Again, specifically talking about my Econ's courses which I am taking online, but information on self-taught would be great too.

Any information anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
