Wasn’t really sure where to start this thread, but I figured parents would have the most experience with selling textbooks, so I put it here. I am going to start my freshman year of college in around a month, and I just realized that I should probably sell my textbooks from high school ASAP, seeing as a lot of high schools in my area are starting soon/have already started. I basically have no idea how to go about this – in the past I’ve sold them back to my school at a buyback event, but that event hasn’t happened for a few years. I was thinking of selling them on eBay, but I’ve heard that eBay isn’t the best place to sell them. It seems like there are tons of websites that focus on selling textbooks, and I have no idea which ones are credible and which are not, so I don’t really know what to do. Should I sell them to a website specifically for selling textbooks (and if I should, which websites actually work for this?), or should I try to sell them on Amazon or eBay? Any help/advice is appreciated.
We bought HS books on craigs list and Amazon. Ebay is another option. Now is the time to get them listed. If you enter the ISBN in ebay you will get a listing of the same book being sold and can get an idea of its worth. It will be worth more if: it is the current edition, there is not highlighting and writing in the book. Good luck.
I used to sell my S’s books, but am unable to sell my D’s. D likes to write and highlight in the her books.
I compare prices at Bookscouter.com because they have about 40 different buyers (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Bookbyte, and many more). Check the reviews of individual companies to see if they pay in a timely manner or if they’re known for problems (claiming they didn’t receive books or downgrading the condition of books received so they could pay less). Be aware that some buyers have a minimum (ex. each shipment has to have $10 worth of books, etc.). There will be a link to each buyer’s website so you can get more info. on their policies.
It’s very easy to sell your used textbooks on amazon.
Log into amazon
Pick sell textbooks
You need to link to your checking account
Then select sell textbooks again
Enter your textbook’s Isbn #
Look at the other prices that the book is selling for
List book for sale
When book gets purchased, you need to have packing material for the book, such as a box or bubble mailer
In amazon, you can buy the postage and print label (but need a scale to weight the package)
In amazon you can request package pickup from US postal service.
If you don’t want to go through the hassle of selling them on ebay or amazon, you can use amazon’s trade-in account. You enter the info, describe the condition and they give you the price as you enter information. If you agree, they will send you a confirmation and printing label. All you do if box the stuff, and put the label on. Drop it off at any UPS shipping location. They pay the shipping. Takes about 4 days for them to review and credit the funds into your account.
My kid just sold most of his PS games and Wii games, plus the PS, controllers, memory cards, plus the textbooks.
Most online textbook sites (textbooks.com, ebooks, etc) you just put in ipin, they give you the value and a mailing label. You send in books, they send you check a couple weeks later. Eazy breezy. Our craigslist is a creep fest.
