Selling point for UA Computer Science?

I am seriously considering either Alabama or Auburn for Computer Science. I like both of there programs I originally ruled out Both Alabama and Auburn for CS because I wanted to go to Georgia Tech. However I have decided that Georgia Tech would not be a fit for me.

What is something unique Alabama CS has that is different and overally better than Auburns?

You should send an email to Dr. David Cordes and ask him. He’s the CS Dept Head, and also the director of the Freshman Eng’g Program.

http://cordes.cs.ua.edu/

This program appears to be unique. My S is considering doing it.

http://100p.cs.ua.edu/doc/policies.pdf/view

Why isn’t GT a fit?

Many don’t like GT’s male/female ratio and their crummy dorms…and the area of Atlanta.

It seems like a polarizing place. Some students appear to like it while many seem to hate it.

Have you seen UA’s new gorgeous Science and Engineering Complex? I know Auburn has a new complex as well, but UA’s is much bigger, and designed to facilitate interdisciplinary research. You should definitely check it out. It is a like a mini campus of its own.

I know a CS PhD student at Bama and she’s very impressed. The program is ABET accredited of course.

Do contact Dr. Cordes…he’s very nice and will answer your emails.

Two programs that you can potentially participate in at UA as a CS major are STEM MBA and CBH. I’m not familiar with Auburn, but I believe that these programs are unique.

[Manderson - Stem Path To The Mba](http://manderson.cba.ua.edu/academics/departments/mba_program/stem_path_to_the_mba)

[Computer-Based Honors Program | Honors College](http://honors.ua.edu/computer-based-honors-program/)

I’m not sure if this is going to give exactly the answer you are looking for, but I do think its good information for you. We have just completed a full day honors visit at UA and 3 separate tours/information sessions at Tech (easy because we are in Atlanta). Like you, my son is seeking a CS degree. My older D is a junior at Alabama but is not a CS major. What stood out to me is the willingness of the UA staff to meet directly with us at length, rather than just giving info to a large group. My son is seeking a broad college experience encompassing a possible minor in history along with finding an opportunity to work with elementary school students in a tutoring capacity. He walked away from his meeting with Dr Cordes feeling like he would be encouraged to pursue all of those interests, along with an invitation to work within many of the computer camps offered to young kids. I think you could be reassured that they would be equally eager to help you find your place. I will assume you have visited both places and already understand that the physical campuses are very different.
