sellouts who want your homework solutions

Would you care if someone develops a crutch on you for class notes and homework solutions? Personally, I don't respect people like that, even if they're my 'friend'. I mean they're basically stealing your hard work. A friend of mine has plenty of connections, and he's able to get other people's solutions every week some how, in which case he essentially plagiarizes everything. Last week, I worked pretty much all night on some Matlab codes, while he stared at his computer right screen next to me, and then started to surf fb. When I was ready to turn my codes in, he asked me if he could scan my homework and turn it in for me. I reluctantly said ok partly because I was in a room full of people, and partly because I'm a people pleaser sometimes. Anyways, he's not getting any more help from me unless he stops being a b*tch. I just want to know what people on cc think about these people.

I don’t share homework with others, so I can’t comment on that bit. I don’t mind sharing notes, but I prefer doing a study group where they end up having me teach them the material. I’ve found that if I know it well enough to teach it to a bunch of slack offs, I’ll do extraordinarily well on the test. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

I usually respond to people like that (who are using me as a crutch rather than genuinely interested in learning) by offering “help” that is more-or-less useless if they haven’t been studying (“Oh, you just have to use the algorithm we went over in class last Thursday. You should have it in your notes.”). That way, I look like less of a jerk than if I just said “do your own blasted work”, but they still learn not to come to me if they haven’t worked on it themselves.

Why would you let someone else turn in your homework for you? I’ve never heard of such a situation. I mean its different if you ask them to because you can’t, but having him offer is just weird. I wouldn’t trust anyone who offers to turn in my homework for me when there is no reason i can’t turn it in myself.

willingly/knowingly “sharing” your homework with someone is just as much against most honor codes as someone copying your homework.

Bottom line, you could be found guilty of cheating and kicked out of school too. That is the way that stuff works sometimes.

haha, I wanted to give him that runaround. But the friend side of me gave him the short break instead, a decision that I now regret. At his pace, he’s going to get rolled by the next midterm. I just hope he doesn’t claw my leg asking to study with me the night before the exams.
