Son was called to GC office yesterday and given the piece of paper congratulating him and giving him the temporary password to log in.

I thought some people said they would also receive a certificate that could be copied and sent to colleges verifying their semifinalist status?

Son has already sent some college apps in and I am looking for something that can now be sent separately to be added to his applications before the are reviewed. Should he have received a certificate also?

Son has updated his activity list but for the applications that are already sent I think it is best to send something to be attached …but nothing appropriate has been received so far.

My son was told by one college admission officer to go ahead and file the scholarship application prior to the National Merit being announced (we knew from his score that he would make it) as every college got a list of all the Semi-Finalist and they would pick it up from there. So I think simply notifying them is fine- they have the list they can cross check to see that it is true.

My kiddo (Class of 2011) was going through the two-pronged (and long drawn-out) process of academic and auditions-based admissions to colleges. When she received her official finalist letter in the winter of her senior year, she sent a copy of that to schools as a reminder/touch base/notice. Necessary? Probably not required, but when a kid is hoping for 1:8 spaces in a program that auditions over 1500 kids…she wanted to take every opportunity for the admissions committee to know about her. She’s happily a sophomore at her first choice school and a NMS.
