If you are not chosen as a semifinalist, will you still be notified?

@divinechaos, I think they’re sending notifications via email to everyone regardless of status and then letters by mail only to semis.

@batfan, I believe you are correct. This is the information I was given from the foundation when I called again today. Everyone will be notified by email of their status and only semifinalists will receive postal notification. I was told that they were HOPING to notify everyone by this Friday but not a guarantee. I was also told that applicants of all standing have been notified. Not just the semifinalists. Lets all just be patient. We have no other choice right now. Once again, good luck everyone.

I got my semi-finalist email but as far as I know nobody else from my school did…

Is it posted online yet?

@Lizzy63, I called this morning and they told me something slightly different - that emails are going out in waves and that they will be done notifying people by Friday. I asked if all semifinalists have been notified and she said that no, emails are going out in waves so everyone will hear by Friday.

I haven’t gotten any email at all so I’m hoping we will hear by Friday.

I got my notification yesterday! I’m from Michigan!

NJ student here… :D

I got my semifinalist notification yesterday (the e-mail went to my spam)!!! Does anyone know if the results are posted online anywhere?

Does anyone know how to access their application? I tallied up all the hours from my Ds past activities from the previous 3 years but i have lost the exact number. Do you think they will care if there is a discrepancy between the number of volunteer hours on this application vs. the other?

I have the same question as tigerparent. Do you guys think they will care if there is a little discrepancy with the hours worked and volunteered?

Also, does any previous Coke recipient have tips they wish to share with hopeful semi-finalists? If so, I’m sure we’re all ears!

No, I don’t believe it will be a problem if there is a slight discrepancy between applications. They do review both, but exact numbers aren’t as important as the content. If you were honest/realistic about your hours on the original application, you will be fine!!!

As far as tips for the semi-finalist application, from what I observed of the other finalists I met in Atlanta, we all share two things in common. We’re all well rounded students; in and out of the classroom. And we all had something that made us unique, memorable, and excellent. Honesty is the buzzword. They do not expect you to be perfect, they expect 17/18 year old leaders.

I remember one of my essays being about wanting to grow up to be Ohio State’s mascot since age two. Another essay was about being proud to from Southern Ohio and being a successful Appalachian Woman. As far as statistics, I had a 25 on the ACT, and graduated 12th in my class. I received designation as a national scholar and was awarded the 20K. So for those of you worried about not stacking up, it’s about how you present yourself.

Do be true to yourself.
Do be honest.
Do YOUR best.
Do great things.

Everybody I received my Semifinalist notification at 5:00 AM this morning. So excited! If you didn’t get an email at 3:47 on that first day, keep your hopes up. Good luck.

I got my notification on 12/20/2011 at 11:16 AM. From CT. I’m not sure how they’re releasing it, by geography or something else.

Thanks for the tips elliemae1300

thanks elliemae—I will have my daughter read your post. Love it for sincerity and truth.

@highschoolstudent. What state are you from?

In florida… haven’t heard anything? Anyone received an email that you were not chosen as a semifinalist?

From Florida too, haven’t received either. From what everyone’s saying, doesn’t seem like these representatives know too much about what they’re talking about…

@bostonmom2
So. Cal

Someone on this forum said they got semifinalist from my area of CA in the first wave of notifications, showing that they are not releasing by geography.

Perhaps they are releasing the results based on when an applicant submitted his/her application? I have yet to receive any kind of notification, and I submitted my application a couple of hours before it was due.
For those of you who have heard back, when did you submit?

@AmbitiousEfforts, I have not heard back yet I submitted mine pretty early - I think early October or late September? I don’t know why they wouldn’t send them all at once. Waves just sound like more work.

still nothing in colorado.
