D will be taking an SAT2 test this saturday. She is really eager to send out some applications. Would it be better to wait until the scores come back from that subject test or can we send it in later? Some of these schools have a Nov 1 deadline so waiting to send the application is cutting it close. Also, none of the schools require the SAT2. It would just be extra.
send in the apps now - get it over and done with.
If regular decision, most certainly send them in. Get them done with. Most everyone will have scores coming in after an earlier application deadline.
If Rolling or Early action and you think she will need the boost of a strong score, maybe wait.
There is no reason to wait. In the case of the OP’s D, none of the schools require Subject Tests. (I’ll assume some at least consider them, else she’s wasting her time taking the tests).
In cases where one decides that cores are not strong enough for ED, a simple email to the school asking to switch a submitted application to RD is sufficient. This is a frequent occurrence.
That said, she should only submit her applications if she is happy that all the info is correct, essays have been proofed several times, etc. But if she’s satisfied, hit the submit button.
Go ahead and complete the apps. Since the schools don’t require the SAT 2 scores, those should only be sent down the line if they are strong enough to add weight to the app.
Thanks everyone. The score from Saturday should get to the college before the EA deadline. If her app is already complete without it and it comes in afterwards, will the still consider it or will that be too late? If she gets an excellent grade, I don’t want it to go to waste.
The score will definitely be added to her application file. Don’t worry about this. It’s SOP (standard operating procedure).
Thanks everyone. I may be worrying for nothing because at the slow rate our GC is moving, who knows when she will actually have her transcript in!
