Send noteworthy update to colleges?

Quick question: D applied to a number of schools RD where the deadline was 12/1. After that date, she did something very noteworthy re: an EC. Is it appropriate to send updated info to a college before hearing from them? She did send an update via email to a school where she was postponed (encouraged in their deferral letter).

Hi - my son was deferred ED last year and received an award and he did choose to email the admissions officers at that particular school and the other schools he applied RD to let them know. He ended up being accepted at the ED school - who knows if that helped? He figured it couldn’t hurt. I’d say go for it.

I would definitely send it. I specifically remember some admissions officers during visits saying they welcome updates. Any school that doesn’t look at supplemental material will just disregard.

I agree, just send it. I only know of one school that says they won’t accept any extra materials.

Thanks for the opinions. Will ask D to send info to the other schools ASAP.

S1 sent a midyear update but didn’t include everything. S2 didn’t update. Heavy consideration was given to “are the new honors/awards sufficiently important?”

That was a decision each S made, not us, though they did discuss it with us.

If you can identify the adcom rep for your area/state on the school’s website, send email to him/her directly if possible.
