I want to send them some of my poems, but I don't know whether they are good enough. I mean, I do have my works published in litmags...but it's HARVARD.

I mean, if the admissions officers find them underwhelming, will that affect my admission chances negatively?

Yes, the choices you make about what to send are a reflection of your judgment. It’s not a bad poem per se that will hurt you; it’s the poor judgment of sending something unimpressive.

Talk to your English teacher. If they think the poems stand out as among the best student work they’ve seen in the last few years, then send them.

i wrote a poem that is published in a massachusetts based literary journal. i think i’ll submit that one. plus 2 that reflects who i am and i just love, good poetry or not.

no offense to a lot of people and i know this may sound cocky…but i know several other kids who are submitting poetry supplements to colleges…and i think that i write at a slightly higher level than them…yea (i know, i sound horrible) :(

I sent in a creative writing supplement myself. Am I little nervous? Yes, of course. But I think you just need to trust in your ability. Would I recommend sending something on Dr. Seuss level? No, lol. Don’t worry. I am sure whatever you have or are going to submit will be exceptional :-).

Thanks. Most of the people telling me to submit are not very into creative writing themselves, so in a way I don’t trust their opinions. My English teachers are also not extremely into poetry either.

I think that my writing reveals a great deal about my thought process. Therefore, it is more fitting for the admissions committee, than for the English faculty…do you catch my drift?
