Sending in deposits to more than one school

couldn’t you tell those were rehetorical questions? How does relocation overseas affect your decision between Milton and Exeter? It should affect whether you’d be staying in a BS in this country or go overseas.

I just don’t see why people think it’s okay to double deposit. Why should you get more time to choose what school you want to go to when everyone else doesn’t? It’s a deadline…just like deadlines for applications.

Should you be able to send in an application past a deadline because, oh, I was still deciding what schools to apply to? No, of course not. Should a school not send some acceptances/rejections out for March 10 because they’re still deciding who they should give a slot to? No, of course not. They have until March 10 to make their decision, just like the students have until April 10 to make their own decision.

For whoever showed that example about depositing early because of housing - usually that’s just a housing deposit and you’re not actually sending in the deposit saying you’re attending that college. But that’s different. In boarding school, if you’re accepted you’re guaranteed a spot to live in the dorm, they don’t tell you to send in a deposit early to make sure you’re going to get a bed to sleep in like some colleges do so I don’t think you can compare the two situations like that.

Now that would be wrong on my part, I told my parents I would take on that burden.

hj, I understand where you are coming from. Application deadlines can be extended if you have special circumstances, by the way.

You can put what ever spin you want on it, its still not right.
You are either holding up the spot for one kid or two right?

I would not do that let alone let my S do it either.

It’s not like I am asking for all summer or anything… Beyond that I asked the schools, and told them my whole situation and they agreed…

I don’t really see how your circumstances warrant double depositing at schools here - your “special circumstances” are choosing between staying here and going to a boarding school or going abroad. You should have chosen one boarding school, you didn’t need to deposit at both.

hj0519 is right. Seriously, what is the “whole situation” that made you double desposit in Milton and Exeter???

Anyway, even if ppv were to relinquish his spots, that wouldn’t mean spots on the waitlist would open up. And this is coming from someone on 3 waitlists hoping for a spot.

I am making a decision very soon, too. I understand the frustration and understand the flaws in what I did. I am not keeping these two spots open forever, just for several more days, until we get a little more information regarding our familial situation.

Why would you need to have 2 spots at schools to make a family decision? If the decision is pro or con boarding school or location of school, wouldn’t one school suffice?

Oh my god, what’s wrong with you guys?
PPV already talked to the schools and got the date he has to give his decisions by.
It’s him that makes the decision, when the schools have no problem with it. I don’t think bashing on him will make him give up his spot anyway,

Couldn’t say it any better hyeonhoy. I thought I was the only one who thought he was being ganged up on.

If it makes me seem any more human (because a handful of people do not believe I am) I feel guilty. I really am not trying to hog spots or anything. Oh well.

I think it doesn’t really matters because you’ll have to make decisions sooner or later.
It’s just people who couldn’t wait for a spot they’re not even guaranteed to get.
by the way, saying that it’s unethical/ immoral etc, just poor excuses.

I for one don’t believe a word of it. None of these schools would tell you it was fine to give both them and a peer school a deposit.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

WOW, then it’d be PPV who’s gonna be in trouble, What are you trying to prove here?
That the schools never said it was ok? and what if they didn’t ? It doesn’t change ANYTHING.

@hyeonhoy: quoted from another thread -

"No point in debating PV’s facts because he and his family clearly decided what was best for them. But, when he puts it out there on CC, he will get comments, opinions, and some anger, I see . His “special circumstances” as I recall are a tough choice about whether he can go to BS here or a school abroad, based on a family move, but not special facts requiring him to hold on to BS1 (M) and BS2 (E). Holding a spot at one BS AND the school abroad makes sense with his facts, however, holding 2 BS schools when almost every other family plays by the 4/10 deadline, seems piggie and a bit dishonest (since he really can’t go to both). "

@ watertester: I’m not saying PV is right. It just seems pathetic how people bash him for nothing.

hmom: It was not a long thing. Neither of them know which is my top choice, both are trying to get me (I guess?).
