Hi all, I'm a new member and I'm experiencing a dilemma regarding SAT/ACT score reports. I realize that the regular decision is Jan. 1 but do official SAT/ACT scores have to be RECEIVED by the deadline? Or is Jan. 1 simply a postmark deadline?

It depends on the school. Call your school tomorrow.

There are some that actually want everything, including test scores, in their hands by Jan 1, and those are usually clear on that in their application information provided on their websites. Most, however, accept scores that arrive after the Jan 1 application deadline; in fact many of those even accept SAT scores from the Jan test. Note, if you don’t know the answer for your particular colleges and already have your scores, send them now; scores can arrive before applications.

If we send stuff now, is there a chance it’ll still be too late?

Likely not. Sending scores to and receipt by college are events that today occur simultaneously in that what CB does is place the scores in an online account the college has with CB, at which time the scores are deemed delivered although the college may not immediately go into that account to download scores. The delay you have is the time between when your order is made and CB processes it and puts the scores in the on-line account for the college, which usually does not take more than a week.

I sent in my scores on the 23rd. But here is my concern: all of my scores have yet to be processed, and after contacting the agencies, they have given me estimated delivery times that are slightly over the deadline. I do realize that schools like Harvard and Stanford require official score reports to accompany the CA and supps, but will they really not consider my application if my scores arrive late?
